Wishwas Announces Diwali Fundraiser With Chief Guest, Designer Naeem Khan
Entertainment Sep 16, 2014
Since the successful fundraiser last year of Wishwas, New York based non-profit, celebrity couple Ranjana and Naeem Khan are again announcing another fundraiser for 2014.
Wishwas focuses on empowering low-income immigrant women. The organization trains them in vocational skills and helps them to assimilate within society such that they are financially-able and independent.
The Diwali celebration gala will be held on October 28th in New York City at the fashion house of Naeem and Ranjana Khan. Naeem Khan, who is an Indian-born American fashion designer, has been the fashion stylist guru for stars such as Padma Lakshmi, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Eva Longoria, and many others even First Lady Michelle Obama for the 2013 Oscars.
Nivedita Chandrappa, Wishwas Executive Director says, “Wishwas needs the support of our community to help raise funds for our programs that help these women in need. Our annual celebration is an effort to meet our financial goals so we can continue to create a safe space where immigrant women can come together and develop confidence in their futures. We envision a world where all women will have the opportunity to achieve financial freedom”
Noted jewelry designer, Ranjana Khan, is devoted to the charity with her time. Because of her celebrity status, her star power has led to bringing the organization to the public eye and has helped generating a following from all over the world. Not only has Ranjana work been featured in major fashion magazines such as Allure, Marie Claire, and others but many celebrities wear her creations of earrings, bridal jewelry, woven bracelets, and bib necklaces. Khan relates, “Wishwas is close to my heart because it provides the skills that boost confidence in women in our lives. By providing them a safe environment to learn and grow, and becoming financially empowered, Wishwas has transformed the future of many women"
The cocktail reception will be the centre of Naeem Khan’s Spring 2015 collection, which made a debut at New York Fashion Week. Devi Restaurant will provide the specialty hors d’ oeuvres, deserts by Chocal8Kiss, drinks by 1947 Beer and Win34, cocktails by Fair-Trade Vodka, a silent auction, music, and hard to miss dance performances by classical dancer Sonali Skandan and SA Dance Company. The fundraiser expects to attract leading social entrepreneurs, tastemakers, and executives from the tri-state area.
