Four Gorgeous Hairstyles to Get You Ready for Wedding Season

I have five weddings to attend between now and September — needless to say, wedding season is upon us. Whether you’re the bride-to-be, part of the family, in the bridal party or a guest at an upcoming wedding, you probably want to look your best for the main event, right? Well, part of that is nailing down the perfect hairstyle. To help give you a bit of inspiration, here are some of the best looks from this summer’s hottest bridal runways.

Floral Side Braid

At the Suneet Varma Summer 2015 show during Lakmé Fashion Week (pictured above), models’ hair was twisted along the nape of the neck and into a side braid (a little undone for a more texturized effect) with a deep side parting. The bridal braids were then adorned with flowers and ribbons, the extra touch that makes this look perfect for a spring or summer wedding.

This is a hairstyle that transitions seamlessly from an afternoon ceremony to an evening reception — you can do a plain braid and wear your dupatta over your head for the ceremony (the deep side parting works perfectly). Then for the reception, add the floral accents for a quick and easy change.

Bejewelled Ponytail

If your outfit of choice is very ornate, I’d recommend going with a simpler hairstyle, like the low ponytail on Jenny Packham’s spring bridal runway. The back just looks like big waves pulled back, but the crown has a tousled texture with lots of volume and wispy strands at the front. What really ties this look together is the bejewelled hairband that slicks just the front back a little. This style works well with a veil or dupatta on the head, but the hairband looks just as pretty on its own.

Princess Waves

There was another look that caught my eye at this season’s Lakmé Fashion Week, used by two different designers. The two Bollywood showstoppers Neha Dhupia for Sonu Dharnidharka and Soha Ali Khan for Babita Malkani both had loose, natural waves with just two pieces from the front twisted back — a very soft, feminine and sophisticated hairstyle that looks nice on its own, with a simple tikka or adorned with a more embellished, regal-looking matha patti (headpiece).

Perfect Updos

You can never go wrong with an updo for a wedding, but the tricky part is finding the right one because there are so many options. I’m personally not a fan of over-the-top styles, so I really liked the elegance and simplicity of the sleek, low side chignons at the debut of Judd Waddell’s spring 2016 bridal collection. This hairstyle would look amazing with both simple stud earrings or a pair of longer jhumkas.

The other updo I really liked (and will definitely be trying for one of the upcoming weddings this summer) was seen on the Angel Sanchez spring 2016 bridal runway. Voluminous waves were pulled back into a higher, loose chignon with wispy strands and lots of volume at the top of the crown. The finishing touch was a row of small, white flowers tucked around the bottom or top of the chignon.
