With A Detective Thriller, Sexy Screen Siren and Mr. X, April Is Chock-Full Of Surprises At The Bolly Box Office
"April showers bring May flowers" is the saying … but in Bolly film world, that could mean April is a month full of box office duds leading up to gigantic box office hits in May. While this could be a curse, let's hope it not! The following three films are at the top of my list for must-see Bolly flicks this month. Watch them and tell me what you think.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! is a crime thriller directed by critically acclaimed director Dibakar Banerjee, whose last outing, Shanghai, won much praise. The film is also produced by well-known name Mr. Aditya Chopra and stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Anand Tiwari and Swastika Mukherjee in lead roles. The film revolves around a habitual non-conformist, Byomkesh, who is forever trying to make sense of the world around him. He cares for nothing else but truth, and it's the pursuit — the hunt — that interests him.
Now, in my opinion, despite our progress, we have a long way to go when it comes to sci-fi thrillers in Bollywood, but a suspenseful crime-based thriller is something I think we in B-town do quite well. Take Race, Race 2, Kahaani and Talaash as examples. I'm hoping this film delivers us a great storyline and lots of plot twists and that keeps us at the edge of our seats. Fingers crossed.
Ek Paheli Leela stars screen and sex siren Sunny Leone and Jay Bhanushali, Rajneesh Duggal and Rahul Dev. Who cares what this film is about? Because with Sunny Leone leading the star cast, this film is a sure shot at the box office not only for its sex appeal, but for its colourful dance sequences as well — two things that Bollywood films are known for. Goooo, Sunny!
No, this is not a porn film, but I think we can expect at least a french kiss or two with Mr. X — after all, this movie is directed by Vikram Bhatt and stars Emraan Hashmi. But wait a second! Mr. X is being referred to as a "family film" by Mr. Hashmi himself — and his first family film too. Mr. X is a 3D sci-fi thriller that tells the story of a man who gains the power of invisibility and then becomes a vigilante to take revenge on those who have wronged him. I'm praying that this film isn't full of cheesy effects.
