Diwali is the Hindu festival known as the "festival of light" and celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is one of the biggest and most celebrated festivals in India as it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists.
Here's our list of 10 Diwali tracks that can be played throughout the festival:
1. "Deep Diwali Ke Jhuthe," Jugnu (1973)
It may be a little old, but this song is a lovely Diwali song with Dharmendra's character singing along with a number of kids. Jugnu is a film based on an intelligent crook who is able to steal from the most protected set-ups. The film also stars Hema Malini in the lead role.
2. "Aayee Hai Diwali," Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya (2001)
3. "Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka," Devdas (2002)
This isn't the most obvious Diwali track, and actually in the film it isn't performed in a Diwali scene, but instead Paro sings about not letting her lamp loose light. The track being all about a diva not burning out fits in perfectly with the festival of light.
4. "Raghupati Raghav," Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
One of the most loved love triangle films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is based on the lives of best friends Anjali and Rahul. Anjali loves Rahul but Rahul has fallen in love with newby Tina and Anjali decides she has no choice but to leave town. Years later Anjali meets Rahul and Tina's daughter Anjali (Tina passed away when Anjali as born) and Ragupati Raghav is the song that is playing the first time Anjali and Rahul meet again. The song itself is based on Lord Rama and Sita so it has to be included in the list of top Diwali songs.
5. "Lakhon Taare Aasman Mein," Hariyali Aur Rasta (1962)
Produced and directed by Vijay Bhatt and starring Manoj Kumar and Mala Sinha, this film was the fourth highest grossing film of the year and a box office hit. The film may be old but this is one of the most classic Bollywood Diwali tracks. This song will most definitely give you the traditional feel.
Haqeeqat won the National film award for second best feature film in 1965. The film is set against the backdrop of the Sino-Indian War of 1962 starring Balraj Sahni, Dharmendra and Priya Rajvansh. "Aayi Abke Saal Diwali" is sung beautifully by Lata Mangeshkar.
This as Aditya Chopra's second directorial after Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and yet again he managed to wow audiences. The story is about Raj, a school teacher who fell in love with the daughter of his headmaster when he attended the school. Unfortunately his love committed suicide when her father would not allow her to marry him and he comes back years later as a teacher to prove love conquers all. The fun loving song Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai is a lovely couples songs that can be performed at Diwali functions.
8. "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham," Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was a great film that was full of emotion, love and family and the film's title track is perfect for a Diwali song as it shows the return of Shah Rukh Khan's character much like the return of Lord Rama. An emotional track that will make you laugh, smile and cry.
9. "Ragupathi Raghav," Krrish 3 (2013)
Krrish 3 is the third installment of the Krrish franchise by Rakesh Roshan following Koi…Mil Gaya and Krrish. The film stars the hunk Hrithik Roshan alongside Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Chopra. The song Raghupathi Raghav is picturised on Hrithik and Priyanka and is a fun loving song about Lord Rama and, since it incorporates lines like "non-stop party," it is perfect for dancing to.
The 2005 Bollywood film Home Delivery stars Vivek Oberoi and Ayesha Takia. This film has possibly the top Diwali track called, "Happy Diwali." Not only is the whole song about celebrating Diwali, it is sung by a bunch of school kids. A fun loving track that will melt even the hardest of hearts.
