It's road trip time and FORD tells us how to make sure we do it right!
With summer just a few months away, what's the one thing on everyone's mind? – Vacation. Finally, time to enjoy the sun and get away from the stressful workload. What's a better vacation than hitting the road?
Road trips can be fun, but there is a lot of planning that goes along with it. The one thing that should be on everyone's mind before heading out is safety. Before planning that relaxing vacation you've dreamt about in those cold winter days, remember that safety comes first.
That's why Ford Canada has you covered with some safety travel tips. Before leaving to hit the road, remember to check the basics.
Check the tire tread depth, tire pressure, and oil and coolant levels. Fact: Did you know that when driving with tire pressure ten per cent too low will increase fuel consumption by four per cent? So make sure your tire is in good shape before your leave.
Also remember seat belts, they are a must for safety. For those long rides, seat belts can get annoying but remember your safety is a priority. You should not slip them into a position that is comfortable to you. Make sure that seat belts are tightly encircled to your hips, not your waist. Make sure you never place the shoulder belt behind your back or under your arm.
When it comes to children's safety remember to check the provincial and territorial law as to when your child can move from a child seat to booster seat to a seat belt. In Ontario Canada, children under 4ft 9in (1.45m) who weigh less than 80lbs (36kg) should, by regulation, be in child safety seats or booster seats and properly belted. The safety seats need to be securely fitted into the seat before heading out on the roads. In Ford's latest vehicle there is an ISOfix fittings, which eliminate the possible chances of child seats being fitted incorrectly. And of course always check your local state/province regulations to make sure you are adhering to code.
Traveling a long distance can be uncomfortable, including the discomfort pains of sitting in one position. It's always good to remember to protect your neck to reduce severe injury. To avoid any injury, make sure that the headrest should be placed between the top of the ear and the top of the head, and the horizontal position should be less or equal to the ear width.
When packing remember to effectively pack your belongings. Always place the heaviest items to the vehicle floor or truck bed. In need of a quick stop, your items will remain in place and will not be moved forward of the vehicle where it can collide with passengers. Keeping your stuff organized and neat while packing on your vehicle can help your trip be smooth as you can easily access your stuff.
In the 2013 Ford Escape packing is made easier as there is a gentle kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper. The bumper activates, unlocks and raises the liftgate when the driver has the Escape key fob. This allows quick access to the cargo area with the mess.
Before leaving for your trip do some planning. It could save you some time and money at the end. Do some extra planning such as being aware of the speed limits and road laws of the province, territories and states that you plan to travel through. If not a local police will remind you, if you fail to know your limits and laws.
Always keep your hand on the wheel, even if the long trip can be annoying and painful. Take some breaks and enjoy the fresh air, instead on being trapped in a car for hours. You can also use a voice-activated, hands-free connectivity system to control your mobile phone or navigation system, so you're focused on the road.
The 2013 Ford Escape features MyFord Touch®, which gives you the option of managing and controlling information through simple voice commands.
When planning for this trip, plan wisely so that it could be a fun experience. Be sure to choose who you travel with wisely. Since you'll be spending time with them for hours and even day on the road and make sure that your vehicle is comfortable, safe and eco-friendly.
2013 Ford Escape:
If you're looking for a great vehicle to invest for your road trip, the all-new 2013 Ford Escape is your best choice. It brings clever technologies and features that are designed to make life easier. "Packing for road trips is quick and easy thanks to the Escape's new hands-free technology – including liftgate with motion-sensing technology and upgraded MyFord Touch® system that makes connecting with digital devices on-the-go even easier," says Nic Lacasse, Marketing Manager, Ford Canada. The new 2013 Ford Escape, is the best vehicle to consider when hitting the road.
