TIFF 2015 Celebrates 40 Years With A Unique Lineup For The 2015 Film Festival Season
Entertainment Jul 28, 2015
TIFF announced its first line-up of films premiering in the Gala and Special Presentations sections of its 2015 festival programming. The festival is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
For four decades, the Toronto International Film Festival, the second-largest film festival in the world, after Cannes, has been bringing film lovers and moviegoers the best of international cinema and the magic of powerful storytelling.
Earlier today, July 28, 2015, at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in the heart of the Entertainment District in downtown Toronto, CEO and Director of TIFF Piers Handling and Artistic Director Cameron Bailey announced the first round of films making their world premieres in the Gala and Special Presentation sections of the TIFF 2015 program. The 2015 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 10 to 20, 2015.

“This year we are thrilled to share a diverse array of filmmakers from Australia, India, France, China, the United Kingdom and the USA,” said Bailey. "We look forward to sharing these fantastic films with Toronto audiences — the most engaged and enthusiastic in the world.”
TIFF is a great launch pad for many films and especially for international filmmakers with small-budget films. It's always that one time of year when Toronto-area film lovers can check out movies from all around the world without steep flight costs and accommodations. You can travel the world through cinema throughout the ten days of the festival.
Among the first round of announcements were a few South Asian titles that are sure to get the crowds roaring with applause this year:
BEEBA BOYS
Director: Deepa Mehta
Canada | World Premiere, Gala Presentation
The film tells the story of an adrenaline-charged violent Indo-Canadian gang war mixed with guns, bhangra beats, bespoke suits, cocaine and betrayal. Gang boss Jeet Johar and his loyal, young crew are audaciously taking over the Vancouver drug and arms scene from an old-style crime syndicate. Hearts are broken and family bonds shattered when the Beeba Boys (known as the "nice boys") do anything "to be seen and to be feared" in a white world.
GUILTY (TALVAR)
Director: Meghna Gulzar
India | World Premiere, Special Presentations
His next cinematic appearance will be in Guilty, which is based on true events that set off a media frenzy all over the world. Guilty follows the 2008 Noida double murder case and the investigation into the deaths of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and 45-year-old Hemraj Banjade, a domestic employed by Aarushi's family in Noida, India. The controversial case lives on in the minds of the public despite a guilty verdict that sentenced the parents of the murdered girl to life in prison. Irrfan Khan takes the starring role.
PARCHED
Director: Leena Yadav
India | World Premiere, Special Presentations
Three ordinary women dare to break free from the centuries-old patriarchal ways of their village in the desert heartland of rural India. Starring Tannishtha Chatterjee, Radhika Apte and Surveen Chawla, this unforgettable tale of friendship and triumph is called Parched.
