IIFA has grown from ‘One Amazing Night’ to a three-day Weekend, which celebrates and hosts various events and activities. While committed to its objective of promoting Indian Cinema beyond India and placing it on an international platform by fostering exchange and interaction to enhance business opportunities, IIFA also strives to reach out to various audiences and create platforms unique in nature.
Toronto’s economy will be affected for the better via direct and indirect employment, income and profit for business, taxes for government, cultural and professional exchanges, capacity building through access to international and national industry leaders, providing professional development and finally strengthening the positioning for the city, industry and country.
Statistics prove that a repeat in leisure tourism has been a positive direct result. In 2002 a 190% increase in tourism was recorded from Indian tourists into Malaysia’s Genting Highland resort, the venue for the 3rd IIFA Awards Celebration. Singapore saw an increase of 31% in their tourism in the week of IIFA and 16,000 visitors came into Singapore during the week of IIFA 2004. The event generated tourism receipts of SG$17 million (including airfares). Amsterdam saw an increase in tourism by 34%. IIFA Yorkshire took tourism promotion on a long term basis delivering 40% inflation in their tourism thus providing additional benefits to the city.
The Economic growth which IIFA provides surely cannot be neglected. IIFA has brought in Approx $10m in Singapore, € 18.6m in Amsterdam, $ 19m in Dubai and £ 10m in Yorkshire respectively.
Sabbas Joseph, Director – Wizcraft International said, IIFA in the past has always benefitted the industry and the host country hugely in all aspects. We take pride in our achievement and our humble contribution to the entertainment industry and will surely strive for excellence in hosting this year’s IIFA in Toronto.
