Summer 2014 Colour Trend: Balancing the Blues

Azure, delft, cobalt, cerulean, navy, indigo or sapphire … Whatever shade you like, make blue the go-to cool colour of choice for the fashionably fabulous this summer.

While a white wardrobe is the traditional sign of summer, Pantone’s spring 2014’s colour palette is all the rage, a balance between delicate pastels and vivid bursts of colour reminiscent of a garden bouquet.

The hues, with names like 'Violet Tulip' (pastel blue-purple), 'Freesia' (cheery yellow), 'Radiant Orchid' (warmer purple) and 'Hemlock' (foamy sea green), are gorgeous and floral, even if we haven’t seen too many women rocking 'Radiant Orchid' lipstick like Prabal Gurung runway models yet.

Dressing Denim

Pantone’s blue hues include 'Dazzling Blue ,' the colour of the faded ‘90s denim that’s experiencing a comeback. You have a wide selection of denim styles to choose from this season, ranging from overalls and denim teddies to tie-dyed jackets, mini-skirts, embellished cutoffs, or even not-your-mother’s mom-jeans.

Beyond Basic Blues

Pantone’s other blue hue, 'Placid Blue,' is perfect paired with pastels, or neutrals like Pantone’s 'Paloma' or 'Sand' for a laid-back look, or matched with bright 'Freesia' or 'Cayenne' for a fun night out.
