Bollywood starlet Bipasha Basu set to make Hollywood debut in the epic historical romance movie The Lovers.
The Lovers, directed by Roland Joffé and starring Bipasha Basu, Josh Hartnett, Tamsin Egerton and Abhay Deol, is a sweeping saga of love set across two time periods and two continents.
The film starts in the Great Barrier Reef, in 2010. After Jay Fennel (Josh Hartnett) goes on a dangerous dive to explore 18th century merchant ship wreckage, the rugged marine archeologist ends up brain-dead in a Boston Hospital.
With Jay in a coma, his dream-like state takes us back to Pune, India, around 1778, with the British invading palaces, and a young British captain named James Stewart (who looks very much like Jay) out on a very dangerous mission.

Along the way, he faces murder, deceit, betrayal and revenge, and falls madly in love with an Indian warrior named Tulaja (Bipasha Basu).
Basu recently tweeted about the movie's new trailer.
The film is based on the novel Drohaparva by Ajay Zankar, and is set against the backdrop of the Anglo-Maratha war when Peshwa Raghunathrao betrayed the Maratha Empire.
The movie marks Basu's first Hollywood film. While a release date is yet to be announced, it premiered at the 67th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and will hopefully open to wider audiences soon.
