Samsung is rumoured to be launcing a premium 4.7-inch version of the Galaxy S5 that will be in direct competition with the iPhone 6.
SamMobile reports that this device will feature a semi-metallic design and smaller screen compared to the original Galaxy S5.
"According to our source, the Galaxy Alpha will be a somewhat high-end device. It has the same display as the Galaxy S III's, a nano SIM slot, fingerprint scanner and 32 GB of internal storage, but no external storage – this is quite a good indication that reports of the phone being meant as an iPhone killer are partially true," SamMobile posted.
Earlier buzz on the internet suggested an August 13 release date, but the company is looking to go ahead and unveil Samsung Galaxy S5 Alpha this week.
While Samsung has released a Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 Active, it’s the rumoured Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha (we wish it would settle on a single name although Alpha is the hot favourite) that has gotten critics abuzz.
Photo leaked by Korean Herald/ sammobile
The latest leak comes from the Korean Herald, which claims the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (thought to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime or Samsung Galaxy F) has a slightly smaller 4.7 or 4.8-inch 720p screen. Allegedly it also has a super-skinny (6 mm) premium metal body.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is speculated to be a full metal smartphone, just like the iPhone, and it will also come with a semi-metal body model, with the additon of the metallic rim on the edges of the Galaxy Alpha.
Alpha is expected to sport a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display, Exynos 5433 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, a fingerprint and heart rate sensor, 32 GB of non-expandable storage, a nano SIM slot, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Based on the leaked photos, the premium Galaxy S5 will retain the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor found on its predecessor. It also has a flap covering the micro USB port, so it looks like it's also dust and waterproof.
If the Galaxy Alpha really is an inferior version of the Galaxy S5, than it will no doubt disappoint potential Galaxy S5 buyers waiting for the “premium” Galaxy Alpha to be released before making a purchase.
