Sachin Tendulkar’s Biopic Makes A Billion Dreams Come True!
Nothing ignites a fan frenzy in India quite like cricket! And now, the name synonymous with the sport in the Sub-Continent will make its big-screen debut in the much-anticipated film Sachin: A Billion Dreams.
The trailer for Sachin Tendulkar’s official biopic was released on Thursday, and the excitement around it is palpable. Taking to Twitter to share the video, Tendulkar tweeted, “A journey made special by your support and wishes.”
In turn, everyone from Bollywood bigwigs to his colleagues in the sport rushed to express their support. Actor Ranveer Singh enthusiastically tweeted, “SACHIN! SACHIN! SACHIN! Bringing His indelible luminosity to the silver screen!”
Actress Deepika Padukone exclaimed, “Thank you for being such an inspiration and a role model for millions!” Former Indian Cricket team captain Anil Kumble wrote that the trailer, “Brought back all the memories we shared in the last couple of decades.”
Beginning with his unmistakable voice, the one-minute clip builds into a crescendo of loud crowds shouting “Sachin! Sachin!” a very familiar refrain heard every match he's played in his legendary career. The film aims to tell the story of how a “wild child” united his country and became a “virtuous hero” — a claim few people will deny, given his widely accepted status as "The God of Cricket."
Directed by Emmy-nominated director James Erskine, the film is fittingly scored by Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman. Forty per cent of the 120-minute film will reportedly feature actual footage of Tendulkar’s matches. Along with the hero himself, his son Arjun also stars in the project as a younger version of "The Little Master."
Firstpost reports that at a recent function in Mumbai, Tendulkar shared his thoughts on acting, saying that despite playing cricket in front of cameras for years, being told how to perform in front of them was a whole other ballgame. He said, “Without any doubt, acting was more challenging than playing cricket. I enjoyed playing more.”
An official release date for the film hasn’t been announced yet. However, with the trailer hitting a million views in an hour and over 6 million views in less than two days — plus the massive buzz around it — box office earnings are predicted to be record-breaking.
