Below outlines helpful tips on how to make your workout last:
Don’t Have Sports Drinks
Fitneass suggests that having a sports drink after a workout will set back all the work you just put in- adding back the calories you just spent burning! Instead of choosing a sports drink, it is recommended that you drink water and have a healthy snack, like an apple with peanut butter, or carrots and hummus, to gain energy after an intense workout.
Focusing Only On Cardio
We tend to think that cardio is the best way to lose and maintain our weight. Wellness Mama recommends trying something new, and fun, such as kickboxing, sprints, or a new sport; continuing to mix it up keeps your body from becoming lulled into a mundane workout. Replacing cardio with higher intensity, shorter exercises will burn fat quickly and build lean muscle!
Staying In Your Sweaty Clothes for a While
Showering and changing your clothes immediately after a workout is a must. Trina Warren, a certified personal trainer and Pilates Instructor at AYC Health and Fitness in Kansas City tells Women’s Health Magazine, “It's the overall dampness of your workout gear plus the sweaty undergarments that trigger the infections."
Lack of Sleep
The mornings are the best time to work out. However, if you are waking up really early in the morning, and not getting enough sleep, you are not doing your body any justice. Fitneass explains that growth hormones produced during sleep, help muscles repair. Seven to eight hours daily is recommended.
Avoid Alcohol After A Workout
Eileen Breeding, an exercise physiologist at AYC Health and Fitness, tells Women’s Health magazine, “Alcohol weakens the muscle-recovery process—and the majority of muscle recovery happens within 30 minutes of your workout.” If you have a pint of beer, you are not giving your muscles enough time to rest. Having alcohol will only cause more muscle damage in the long term, which makes your workout ineffective.
