Paris Fashion Week’s South Asian Connection
With Paris Fashion Week’s Ready-to-Wear SS 2016 shows officially wrapped up as of yesterday, we take a look at two Indian designers that left quite the impression: the internationally acclaimed Manish Arora and New Delhi's Rahul Mishra.

It was a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes fit for only the boldest of disco queens ready to party 24/7. With a heavy dose of carnival vibe, disco elements like technicoloured prints in shimmery fabrics and metallic fringe were seen on layered dresses, full shirts and funky crop-tops.
Throughout the bohemian-themed collection, glimpses of Arora's cultural background could be spotted. Note the lehenga-style skirts, sari tops, paisley earrings, pajama pants and sarong-styled dupatta body scarves.

Accessories were just as fantastical. Along with the exaggerated tassels, paisleys and mirrored embellishments were a mix of whimsical heart shapes, Rubix cubes, butterfly motifs and Arora’s SS16 muse, "Bunnyla" — the Paris party bunny that unapologetically comes stuffed with condoms in her undies — proving this collection is not for the faint of heart nor the prissy girl-next-door.

The first Indian to win the International Woolmark Prize back in 2014, Rahul is one of the youngest designers to have showcased at Paris Fashion Week. Known for his hand-embroidered ensembles, he took it up a notch for the Spring/Summer 2016 season using a technique he likes to call “enhancing 3-D with human hands,” hence the 4D collection.
Fashion critics were shown contemporary, wearable pieces involving this artistic 3-D effect. The colour concepts were subtle hues against sombre shades such as yellows, greys, blue and black against white, which let the intricate artwork stand out.

Notable faves to watch out for were the elegant pleats, sheer overlays and dramatic fish-scales.

Rahul is also getting ready to present an installation from his PFW Spring-Summer 2016 collection as part of Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Spring-Summer 2016 on October 11 at the French Embassy.
“This is a part of the FDCI’s initiative to celebrate true heroes, who are steadily inching towards global glory in the fashion world,” The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) said in a statement.

The efforts are part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make In India initiative, aiming to promote the campaign globally, in this case through fashion. Amazon India Fashion Week started Wednesday, October 7, and will run until Sunday, October 11.
