Pastel Hair 101: How To Rock The Summer’s Hottest Hair
Pastel hair: give this trend a try for yourself!
By now, you've probably seen Kylie Jenner's mermaid turquoise hair and Nicole Richie's ever-changing roster of hair colours and thought, "Would that look good on me?" Of course it would! But you need to take a course in Pastel 101 to avoid the multiple mistakes of this writer.
1. Learn Your Basics The Hard Way

Hard truths: you need to bleach your hair until you reach a pale blonde or white shade before you start applying the pastel shades that you want. Bleach definitely dries out your hair, since it's oxidizing the melanin in your hair, thereby removing its colour. That's why bleaching at home takes a few attempts, with varying shades of yellow to my unfortunate brassy orange. But keep those keratin and Moroccan oil conditioners handy, because they work to keep your hair silky and make it feel less rope-like.
2. Find Your Ideal Dye

There's a bit of a trial and error process in finding your ideal dye, especially one that offers that particular colour you want. Most stylists recommend Manic Panic, which keeps your hair well-conditioned after your bleach job, but there are more options flooding the market to meet the demands for pastel, mermaid, unicorn and sand art hair! If you've got curly hair or dry hair, Bleach London offers some gorgeous colours that achieve what you actually wanted in the first place! Or, if you want to try more of an experiment that won't last for too long, there's Garnier Color Styler or Splat. Both offer limited colours but are helpful if you're a fickle soul. The essential ingredient in this process? Lots of patience!
3. Choose Your Style

These days, there are infinite ways to approach colouring your hair. Did you want ombré? Just your bangs? Or your full head? For all these options, you could start with figuring out what colours might suit your skin tone and undertones. If you're like me, medium tone with yellow undertones, then ruby and plums are perfect, but jewel tones like blue or emerald can look equally beautiful. However, you can disregard this match test and rock whatever colour you like — because you're fierce like that.
