The official first day of summer is June 21st, but in many music lovers’ eyes the Much Music Video Awards (MMVAs) which airs on Sunday June 16th is the true kick-start to the summer festivities and this year promises to be as jam packed as ever with the best top 40 artists around set to perform. If there happens to be a sick day scheduled in your work, we suggest using it the Monday following this event as the MMVAs always puts on a crazy party worth staying in bed the next day.
The most shriek-worthy night in music earned that moniker once again this year with the announcement of several great artists to perform on this epic night of music. Of course with the MMVAs taking place in the great city of Toronto, Ont. Canada, Canadian artists are always making an appearance and are welcomed with a large home country ovation. New.Music.Live on Much Music, Canadians that were announced to perform were Sk8ter sensation and recently named ‘Canada’s most beautiful celebrity’, Avril Lavigne, along with MMVA nominee/East Coast hip-hop artist Classified, and first time nominee and Toronto native Serena Ryder. In addition to these great Canadian artists, British singer-songwriter sensation Ed Sheeran will take the stage to play one of his hits from this past year, as will Season 11 winner of American Idol, Phillip Phillips.
Avril, who is one of Canada’s most successful artist will perform her new hit single ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’. The greatly talented and as humble Ed Sheeran will have the fans in a frenzy as he performs to all of his Canadian fans. Local sensation Serena Ryder who I’m sure is as excited as anyone to perform at the MMVAs will sing ‘Stompa’ which went to Gold Status is just a few short months, and American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips will most likely perform his hit single ‘Home’.
The first round of presenters confirmed include PRETTY LITTLE LIARS stunning duo of Lucy Hale and Shay Mitchell, Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow, Kunal Nayyar from the hit TV sitcom the Big Bang Theory, GLEEs Naya Rivera, Arrows Stephen Amell and Canadian pop artists and regular at the MMVA’s Shawn Desman. These stars join previously announced performer Demi Lovato and co-host/performer PSY, who will have the crowd electrified as he performs one of his uncontrollably catchy songs.
The event and fanfare gets started at 8pm on Sunday June 16th with the Much Music Video Awards Red Carpet Special, followed by the electrifying live show at 9pm. The show promises to have all in attendance and most of Toronto rocking out to the most popular music in the world all night long.
