Mercedes Benz Celebrates Ten Years Of Miami Fashion Week Swim With A Splash.
This past weekend (July 17-21) Miami rolled out the runways for the season’s latest beach and poolside fashions with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim celebrating its 10th year.
While it doesn’t get the same publicity as other fashion weeks, with over 3,000 global swimwear brands from all over the world and over 4,500 buyers showing up to the joint tradeshow, “Swim Show” at the Miami Beach Convention Center, one of the swim fashion world’s largest expos, Fashion Week Swim was the place to see and be seen this weekend.
Swim spokesperson Cece Feinberg, put it this way, “A young swimwear brand can be catapulted into overnight stardom — and an established brand can be reinvigorated.” With that sort of high energy and summer vacation spirit in mind, what does this season of fun in the sun have to show us?
Maaji Swimwear’s head designer Juliana Londono says, “Structured swimsuits such as body cons are also strong for this season, as well as underwire tops, strappy backs, lingerie-inspired elastics and trims.”
Also trending are swimsuits that transition from a day of play to an evening out. Throw on a skirt or pants and some heels, and prepare to be admired for your no hassle, sexy look of sun-kissed skin and tousled natural beach waves. Swim Week regular, Mara Hoffman Swim is expanding from New York to L.A. with signature colours in new geometric styles, inspired by a trip to Guatemala.

For other brands like Mikoh, by sisters Oleema and Kalani Miller, this was their first Swim Week and they shared their Hawaiian heritage and California style. Aloha! I love Mikoh’s leather-look suits and strappy string bikinis.

Caffe Swimwear maintained the popular trend for geometric and ikat designs with ornately printed cover-ups and chic accessories.

On a different note, Minimale Animale’s motorcycle helmets and boots framing banded strappy black and white designs reminded me of something inspired by Tron or Daft Punk.

Or maybe one might prefer Clover Canyon’s more sporty line of zip-up florals and creative stripes?

Wildfox Swim’s more creative floral bikinis might be a bit of a challenge to wear in the water, but their Malibu-style does the job.
