Girl Power, Environmental Advocacy and 1970’s Revival at A/W 2014 London Fashion Week.
Between London Fashion Week and the BAFTA’s falling within the same weekend, London is positively hopping with celebs and fresh style.
This fall seaon, newer designers pushed the envelope of feminine style and the limits of artistic tailoring at London Fashion Week, while more established houses had the luxury to persue personal agendas with signature looks.

Vivienne Westwood promoted her environmental agenda, anti-frakking in Britain, with her timeless style in a collection of tailored tartan and pinstripe shorts and dresses, blazers with razor- sharp lapels and retro pillbox hats. "I really wanted to emphasize, to epitomize, my English look," she explained. Celebs in attendance – supermodel Kate Moss, burlesque performer Dita von Teese, Pamela Anderson plus British singer Jessie J. decked out in an orange Westwood jumpsuit.

Burberry Prorsum rocked the ladies’ version of their Men’s Fashion Week show with color-block blankets, oversized scarves and leather travel bags with bold painted flowers. The models were dressed in Victorian/Prairie-style dresses under form fitting furs and lambswool overcoats. Colour palette on display was a fantastic avocado green, oranges, crèmes and greys; suggestively 1970’s. The show proved a magnet for A-listers like movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, TV presenter Cat Deeley and celebrity photographer Mario Testino.

Cara Delevigne created a sensation, solo-modeling Mulberry’s handbag collection, but it was Welsh designer Julien Macdonald’s sequined “fallen angels” and glamorous inspiration (cathedral taken over by a party with a breathe of Asia) that stole the show for front-row starlets Samantha Barks, (Eponine in the movie "Les Miserables"), singer Eliza Doolittle and British model Abbey Clancy. Alexander McQueen’s successor at Givenchy, the designer proclaimed: “Not enough people are celebrating women at the moment.” He added, “Strong women like Oprah Winfrey inspire me. We need a return to Girl Power.”

Jean Pierre Braganza’s silk and leather oversized silhouettes showcased an intensity with nods to the “female power-player.” His references to the ocean, constellations and Artemisia Gentileschi, (an Italian post-Caravaggio painter) famous for her depiction of Judith, emphasized his collection and personal opinion: "What can I say," Braganza said backstage, "I like women in powerful positions."

Dominic Jones paraded feminine prowess by having a model wear his gold flower jewelry and dance hypnotically. Meanwhile Matthew Williamson’s line showcased woman in blue and red fur coats, bold stars, black & white stripes, and high-laced boots that mixed the decorative elements of a contemporary circus theme.
Preen took on the theme of Star Wars, crossing psychedelic prints with Darth Vader. The force was also strong with Kate Middleton’s favorite hand-bag designer, Anya Hindmarch.
