Laughter: A Must For Your Emotional Health
With busy work schedules and personal obligations, I sometimes wonder why people don’t just take the time to laugh once in a while. It is easy to get caught up with stress, and worry when there always seems to be some issue or problem to deal with. Yet, nothing is easier and beneficial than laughter! Humour lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others, and can even strengthen your immune system! The ability to laugh should not be underestimated and is a must for your emotional health.
Here are a few ways to get as much laughter out of life as possible.
Surround Yourself With Those Who Know How To Laugh About Anything
Seek out the comedians in your life. Plan more get-together's with friends who know how to make you laugh. Move towards laughter when you hear others joking around; usually, people are happy to share something funny because it gives them an opportunity to laugh again. Pay attention to children and emulate them; they are the experts on playing and taking life lightly.
Learn To Find Humour In Perceived Routine Things
Surround yourself with reminders to lighten up. Keep a toy on your desk or in your car, a funny poster in your office, or set a humorous screen saver. Frame photos of you and loved ones having fun, and put them in your workspaces.
Smile More
Since laughter is contagious, those in laugh therapy find it’s possible to laugh without actually experiencing a funny event. This phenomenon works a lot like smiling; when we look at someone smiling, our automatic response is a smile- the same holds true for laughter. Put on funny movies, go to a comedy club, host a game night with friends; or just smile for no reason. These things can put you in a better mood.
Learn To Laugh At Yourself
When you encounter a tough or stressful situation, attempt to laugh rather than bemoan it; look for the irony and absurdity of life, rather than letting stress get to you. And, don’t forget to laugh at yourself! The funniest people are able to be vulnerable; it is this trait that breaks down walls and draws others to you. Share your embarrassing moments, make a joke at your own expense, and show the world that you know how to lighten up.
