April Showers May Bring May Flowers, But Until Then, Keep The Kids Entertained Indoors.
On a rainy day, splashing in puddles may sound fun and dancing in the rain may sound romantic but with kids involved, you may want to skip the muddy foot tracks and runny noses by having fun inside with these five ideas!
Plantable Greeting Cards
A unique take on making paper / Make and Takes
This is such a great idea that I found at Make and Takes, which provides step-by-step directions. This homemade paper contains seeds and can be planted — after the rain, of course. It isn’t an activity to keep the kiddos busy while you’re working, however, so keep this aside as a family project.
Materials:
scrap paper
seeds
water
a blender
a colander
a towel
Fashion Show
This keeps my lil' one busy every time. Get sibling participation or a stuffed animal audience set for your single-child home. Play some fun music while they dance and parade their outfits, costumes and even samples from your own closet.
Scavenger And Treasure Hunts
Make a list of items for the kids to find (the longer the list, the longer they’re busy). List household staples like a coffee mug to something open-ended such as “something green.” Similarly, you can set up a treasure hunt, leaving clues around the house and telling your young hunters where to go next. iMOM has some fun suggestions here, like, “If you’re in a hungry mood, go here first and find some food. (Hide the clue in the kitchen in your pantry or where you store food.)”
Freeze!
Sometimes we get so caught up with trying to find unique activities for the kids that we forget about the classics like hide and seek, or freeze! Have the children move to some music and stop the music suddenly while saying “freeze!” Have the kids freeze in position or in a fun pose like that of their favourite animal.
Shaving Cream Bath Paints
When my six-year-old’s friend was over, I had all sorts of activities planned. But the most fun we had was when the two kids decided to get into bathing suits and play in the tub. Take this idea one step further with bath paints. Turn a muffin tin into a paint palette by mixing shaving cream and food colouring into each section. Let the kids paint the tub walls using old toothbrushes, paintbrushes, sponges, or just their hands!
Find music to use as part of the activities or keep things energized in the background with Songza’s Asian Underground.
