Indian Actress Jyothi Krishna Speaks Out About Being Photoshopped Into A Porn Clip

Morphing and photoshopping actresses' faces onto pornographic clips has become more popular on apps like Whatsapp. Malayalam actress Jyothi Krishna hit back, attacking this practice.
Krishna's face appeared in a porn clip that's gone viral on Whatsapp and other social media, but she broke her silence to condemn the hackers and show that she's not embarrassed by the scandal. In Malayalam, Krishna responded to the incident via her Facebook page.

"Hi friends, some boy/girl belonging to a good family has been circulating a morphed photo with my head and his/her's mother's or sister's body through WhatsApp. I have nothing else to say to the one who has created this morphed image because his/her attempt to do something he/she wished to just failed this time. I could see the immense support of many of my friends, who messaged me regarding this. I am so thankful to all my well-wishers who stood with me and supported me," she said.
Krishna talked to BBC Trending about the need to speak out against this practice in order to "give other social media harassment victims like myself the strength to express their voice and bring culprits in front of the law." Krishna's case is far from an isolated incident. Malayalam actress Asha Sarath's image was Photoshopped onto a clip, and two teenagers were arrested for the crime. Another 19-year old was arrested for creating clips and vulgar messages with Gayathri Arun's image.

It's a widespread problem that has affected even Bollywood stars. Most recently, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli were seen in an offensive doctored photoshoot. Krishna acts in the Malayalam film industry, which is a bit more conservative than Hindi cinema, as the heroines are modestly dressed and don't do too many risky photoshoots.
It's surprising that Kerala, India's most literate state, has the most under-18 teens arrested for violating the Information Technology Act. With so much access to modern technology, minors are often booked for misusing social networking sites by creating, uploading and sharing these doctored clips.
In 2012, almost a quarter of cases of uploading pornographic material came from Kerala. Police and criminologists have advised parents not to give their children phones at a young age, but this is more of Band-Aid solution to a larger problem.
Krishna sees this problem as a "huge" issue and has worked with police to get the responsible criminals apprehended. By taking a stand against this practice, Krishna highlights how her career isn't over. Since she's spoken out, fans have been supporting her and her position. We applaud Krishna for being the voice of the many women who've been affected by doctored images, revenge porn and Photoshopping.
