The much awaited 14th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards were held at the Venetian Macao in Macau. Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor hosted the event. This year’s award ceremony marked the 100 years of Indian cinema. This event is the most eagerly awaited award event is equivalent to Hollywood’s Oscars award ceremony. Although the films in 2012 left judges with lots of amazing choices and difficult decisions to make, the winners have been finally revealed and are as follows.
Anurag Basu’s Barfi (2012) was the winner of multiple awards, which included best film, best director, and the best actor in the leading role (male). Barfi is an Indian romantic-comedy-drama film that paints the picture of Murphy “Barfi” Johnson (Ranbir Kapoor) who is a deaf and mute man and his relationship with Shruti (Illeana D’ Cruz) and an autistic girl, Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra). The film was also nominated as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the 85 th Academy Awards.
Vidya Balan won the 'Best Female Actor' award for her mind-blowing performance in Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller film Kahaani for her role as Vidya Baghchi
Ayushman Khurrana won the rightfully earned 'Best Debut (Male)' for his memorable performance in Vicky Donor
Deepika Padukone accepted the award for the 'Jodi of the Year' and once ex-couple: Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone
Abhishek Bachchan won accolades for his comic and unforgettable role in Bol Bachchan
Anushka Sharma glowed for her memorable supportive role performance as Akhira in Yash Chopra's last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan
The grand event began with a performance by Boman Irani and Vir Das’s ‘Santa-Banta’ act which won the hearts of attendees and viewers alike. The award ceremony had scintillating performances by Abhishek Bachchan, who had been present at the award ceremony to represent his family and he graced the stage with the popular rap number Ek Mai Aur Ek Tu.
Madhuri Dixit sizzles the age as she dances to 'Ghaghara'(Reuters)
Madhuri Dixit, the dancing queen, set the stage on fire when she performed on her recent item dance number “Ghagra” from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Deepika Padukone added more glam to the stage with her sizzling dance moves to the songs from her latest musical hits, which included “Angrezi Beats,” “Tum hi Ho Bandu”, and the most recent “Balam Pichkari.” Dia Mirza who performed on popular numbers like “Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna” and “Tenu Leke”.
After Madhuri Dixit and Sonakshi Sinha it was Sridevi's turn to match steps with ace dancer-choreographer Prabhudheva. She had earlier said: "I must say that it is tough to dance with Prabhudheva." (PTI)
Sri Devi also performed at an absolutely stunning dance at the show with Prabhu Deva, which rocked the stage.Ranbir Kapoor was not present at the award ceremony but Anurag Basu was there to accept the award.
