Bra shopping can be uncomfortable, stressful and a disappointing ordeal. Who doesn’t know the feeling of coming home with a bra that fits well enough but doesn’t make you feel amazing? But by following these simple tips, you’re that much closer to finder the perfect bra every time – and feeling a lot more beautiful every day.

Get Sized By A Professional

There’s a particular way of calculating bra sizes, which is not as simple as you measuring yourself. Professionals will have charts and accurate measurement, as well as experience to let you know which shape and size is best for you. You’ve heard it before: the size you think you are is probably different from the actual size you should be purchasing. Intimacy bra-fit stylist Dee Binyard recommends to getting sized once or twice a year as weight and pregnancy causes fluctuations.

Focus On Band Size

A band too small or too big can significantly change the support of the bra, Kim Caldwell, director of marketing at Linda's Bra Salon in New York City says the band is responsible for 90 percent of support. Even with smaller busts, it’s still important to have support to avoid an awkward shape.

Rotate Your Bras

Just as you're careful to not wear and stretch out your dresses, bras should be treated the same. Avoiding wearing the same bra for more than two days will help keep its original shape.

Use A Gentle Wash

With a special detergent made for silk and lingerie, soak the bra for 30 minutes, wash it by hand and let it hang dry. If you continue to take care of your bras this way they will last to their full potential.

Of course, even the best bras can only last so long. Most bras last about a year, but if you notice discomfort or poor fit, it’s probably reached its expiry date.
