The one night that hails as the 'must-see' event of year for both movie goers and fashion critics finally arrived on Sunday, Feb 24th 2013. The grand event took place at its usual spot at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood broadcasted in over 225 countries.
Hours before the Oscar winners were named, presenters, nominees and their guests trickled down the infamous red carpet for pre-show interviews, strutting their stylist's glam picks and playing with the whimsical mani-cam at the Entertainment Tonight station.

Honouring the best in cinema for the previous year, the Oscars featured first time host to the awards show, Seth MacFarlane, the creator of The Simpsons, Family Guy and the recent comedy film Ted. When asked about the opening number, his sister told Ryan Seacrest that her brother had been working on it for 5 months. The hype that she created on the red carpet in regards to the opening ceremony was nothing but a letdown. What viewers witnessed was an awkward flash from the future skit with Star Trek star William Shatner, silly jokes that touched on rape, race, sexism, Nazis, and the Lincoln assassination according to thedailybeast.com
In our opinion the opener's saving grace was the musical and dance numbers that took place with the help of some A-list talent such as Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum dancing onstage, and singing buddies Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe with the song, ''high hopes'.
This set the pace for a musical night which followed with a tribute to the 50th anniversary of James Bond that was presented by Bond Girl Halley Berry who announced Shirley Bassey to the stage singing the classic anthem 'Gold Finger'. The 10th yr of the musical 'Casino' was also highlighted with an explosive performance by Catherine Zeta Jones who performed her number 'All that Jazz' from the movie '. Jennifer Hudson then hit the stage and belted out “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” the song that helped earned her an Oscar in 2007 for Dreamgirls and gave her a standing ovation. The entire cast of 'Les Miserables' made an entertaining set. Adele who won best original song for 'Skyfall' sang the number followed by Norah Jones singing 'Everbody Needs A Best Friend' from Ted. The real treat kicked in when Barbara Streisand graced the stage singing to perfection "Memories" during in memoriam. The 3 1/2 hr show ended how it started off, with an awkward musical number . This time host Seth MacFarlane was joined by Kristin Chenoweth where the two sang "Here's to the Losers" to help console all the people that didn't win awards during the evening.
Big wins of the night:
Life of Pi bagged 4 oscars, Les Miserables & Argo won 3 with the latter getting the big one, Best Picture, Lincon, Skyfall and Django Unchained took home 2 each while in the actors wins Christoph Waltz took home best supporting actor, best supporting actress went to first time winner Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence won best actress making quite an impact with the highly tweeted trip up the stage and best actor went to Daniel Day-Lewis who is the first actor to win 3 lead actor awards.
