The Golden Globes lived up to their reputation of being an unpredictable and random awards show. But unlike last year's show with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, there was a lot of roasting in Ricky Gervais's fourth time hosting the show.
Inviting Ricky Gervais back again was already a gamble, but he definitely delivered some of the toasty burns of the night in his opening monologue. His jokes poked at Caitlyn Jenner's transition and Jennifer Lawrence's essay on the pay gap between men and women in Hollywood.
Twitter was abuzz with his shoddy transphobic joke about Jeffrey Tambor's role in Transparent that went on far too long, but he did have one stellar moment of the night roasting Mel Gibson.Gibson who got some flack this week in The Guardian for trying to make a Downey Jr.-esque comeback. Gervais joked that "I blame NBC for this terrible situation. Mel blames…well, we know who Mel blames." Gibson sportingly grinned through it after and brought Ricky back on stage for this glorious moment!
Aside from this mad moment in the show, the Golden Globes sprung some surprises in the TV categories when Rachel Bloom won for Best Comedy Actress for the CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Her complete shock and breathless speech were completely endearing and her win so well deserved. This win definitely ensured the show a second season, as with Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle, which swept up Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Actor for Gael Garcia Bernal. I was rooting for Aziz Ansari to sneakily grab the Best Comedy Actor gong, but he surely won the night with his wrong but hilarious prop.
There were more bizarre choices when Lady Gaga won Best Actress in a TV Movie/Mini-Series, beating out Queen Latifah in Bessie, and Kirsten Dunst in Fargo. But Gaga more than made up for the unusual choice when she pushed right through Leo's elbow on her way up to the stage. Leo and his Titanic co-star, Kate Winslet, also had a mini-reunion when she won for Best Supporting Actress for Steve Jobs.

But one of the best wins of the night was Taraji P.Henson getting her first award for playing the wicked Cookie on Empire. To commemorate the win, she passed out free cookies and gave one to Leo too!
During the bloated show, we also got some serious contenders for hosts for next year's show. My money's on the deadpan and hilarious delivery by Eva Longoria and America Ferrera.
In the movie categories, there were some surprises. Sylvester Stallone garnered Best Supporting Actor for playing Rocky Balboa again in Creed. Unfortunately, he egregiously missed out thanking director Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, who were the very reason he was up there in the first place. He later thanked them during the commercial break. But, hopefully, he doesn't forget their names come Oscar night. Brie Larson looks to be the frontrunner now after her win for Best Actress, and as expected.
Leo grabbed his first of many awards this season for The Revenant. Cynicism aside, he spoke about Indigenous land rights in a very eloquent speech.
"I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world. It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that are out there to exploit them. It is time that we heard your voice and protect this planet for future generations,” he said.
Like we have for every Golden Globes before this event, we wished winners could've kept their speeches short and that the host didn't need so many transphobic jokes — but that's wishful thinking. Here's Denzel sharing our mixed emotions of the night with his priceless reaction.
