How To Recreate Alia Bhatt’s Elegant But Edgy Makeup At The Star Guild Awards 2015
Alia Bhatt is cute and charming, but she seems like she’s got a little bit of spunk, which I love! That’s why I wasn’t surprised when she took home the Most Stylish Youth Icon award at last month’s Star Guild Awards 2015. Not only was her indigo Prabal Gurung cut-out gown eye-catching, but her beauty look was spot on, too. The makeup was bold yet sophisticated, which is especially good if you’ve got a baby face like hers, and the hair matched perfectly.
Step 1: Eyes
The focal point of Alia Bhatt’s look was undoubtedly the eyes, with a more graphic take on the traditional cat eye. The black eyeliner on the top was thicker, covering most of the upper lid, with winged-out tips on the outer corner of the eye.
While pulling your eyelid taut, use a felt-tip liquid eyeliner (like L’Oréal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner) to draw along the upper lash line from the inner to the outer corners of the eye. For the winged tip, draw a small line from the outer corner of your eye up toward the end of your eyebrow — follow the natural curve of your lower lash line. How long this line is will determine how thick your eyeliner will be. Next, draw a line connecting the end of the wing to the line on your lids, which should create a triangle-shaped outline. Then just fill in the triangle outline.
Finish off your eyes with black mascara on the top and bottom lashes and black kohl pencil along the lower lash line (Marcelle Kajal Kohl Eyeliner works perfectly). Just make sure that your bottom liner meets up with the winged tip.
Step 2: Brows
Perfectly tamed eyebrows are a thing of the past. Alia Bhatt’s thicker, less-defined brow shape definitely complements the glamorous hair and makeup — not to mention that it’s totally on trend right now. One great tool for adding volume and dimension to brows is Gimme Brow by Benefit Cosmetics. The mascara-like applicator is easy to use and it leaves a more natural finish than just a brow pencil.
Step 3: Face and Lips
To get Alia Bhatt’s fresh, dewy complexion, start by moisturizing, followed by a lighter foundation with a sheer finish. The trick is to smooth out your complexion — not cover it. Try to avoid face powder if you can and use a cream blush — even better if it has moisturizing properties, like the oil-infused Josie Maran Argan Color Stick. For the lips, a natural, glossy finish is the way to complete this look.
Step 4: Hair
To keep all of the attention on your face, simple, straight strands are definitely the right way to go. You’ll obviously get the best results with a quality hair straightener, but just make sure to use a heat protector first. I tend to use Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray because I’ve noticed that it gives hair that extra-polished finish. John Frieda Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist also works well after styling to tame fly-aways and frizz.
