It’s time to take a staple piece in your wardrobe and think outside the box with it. We are going to find a way to take your average suit blazer and create multiple outfits with it. It’s important to remember that being stylish doesn’t mean owning lots of clothes, but finding a way to use what you have in fun and creative ways. Check out our 4 looks for your regular blazer!
Look 1 – Suit & Tie
“And as long as I’ve got my suit and tie, Imma leave it all on the floor tonight”, as Justin Timberlake puts it, as long as you got your suit and tie, you’re good to go. The more traditional of the 4 looks, the suit and tie is your formal go-to look. This look is great for weddings, corporate functions/meetings and any place you need to be dressed to the nines.
To ensure your full look is properly put together, check out my post on accessorizing! This will help you add the right pieces to complete the look.
Look 2 – One Step Down
Now, let’s find a way to dress it down one step. Lose the tie, open up a few buttons and you now have a less formal look. With this look you can keep the matching pants to the blazer, or choose to do a “mix and match” look with different pants. If you want to add a pop of color, throw in a pocket square to add that pop of colour (if you want to learn more about accessorizing, read my previous post)! Keep reading for some more ways to dress a blazer up and down.
Look 3 – Layering The Blazer
This is where we start moving a little further outside of the box. Typically when people layer with a blazer, they add a suit vest in the same pattern or a contrasting one. This gives an added level of sophistication to the outfit. I prefer adding a contrasting vest in a different colour or pattern as it provides an opportunity to have some fun with the look!
Another way to layer a blazer is with a crew or v-neck sweater. Add this sweater over your dress shirt, and then complete the look with your blazer. If you want to make the look a little more formal, feel free to compliment the outfit by throwing on a tie. You can also keep the look more relaxed by leaving off the tie.
I put together a few examples below so you can get a better idea for the concept!
Look 4 – Formal On Top, Casual On The Bottom
Now, let’s talk about the last look, a mix of formal and casual. When you are are in need of a look that is a mix of casual with class, you can throw on a blazer with a pair of fitted jeans or chinos. The most casual of the four suggested looks, this is a great look for multiple types of events including but not limited to, nights out with the friends, date nights, and family outings. You can combine some of the looks from above with this as well! Don’t hesitate to pair a shirt, crew neck sweater, and blazer on the top half, and rock a pair of jeans or chinos on the bottom half.
As you can see, blazers can be incredibly versatile. People often think that you can only create one or two looks with a blazers, but as you can see, there is a lot more you can do. Step outside of the the box and your comfort zone and see the endless combinations you can make if you just get a little creative with your blazer. Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun with your look. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Fashion is meant to be creative and fun, so get out there and style that blazer!
