When the seasons start to change, it is time for a home makeover.
As the weather cools and homeowners travel back indoors, the focus returns to the heart of the home: the kitchen.
Dave Marcus, President of AyA Kitchen and Bath says, “The cabinetry trends that I'm the most excited about for this fall are chunky natural wood details, especially in countertops and accents. Also matte finishes in stains and lacquers. One of my all-time favourite space saving solutions in the kitchen is the magic corner. It brings the hard-to-reach back corner spaces out in the open, making everything easily accessible.” Marcus also loves lift-up appliance garages, especially, he says, those built right into an island or peninsula, with the counter continuing into the cabinet.
Marcus shares his fall trends of fusion designs and styles; mixed cabinetry juxtaposes urban and traditional door styles and clean lines combine with natural materials for a look that is both warm and restrained.
Industrial Warmth is about wood and texture
Industrial Warmth
Highly visual and tactile: texture is a predominant kitchen trend for 2014. Texture can spread from the floor, to backsplash, to cabinetry. With influences ranging from streamlined Scandinavian design to rustic Canadian farmhouses, wood is more prevalent than ever.
Natural, raw materials, like barn board, exposed beams, and brick are embraced alongside sleek surfaces, opposing imperfection with fluidity. Oversized metal hardware – in brass, bronze, or blackened steel – compliments the warehouse-reminiscent look. Marcus says, “We're seeing wood become so prevalent in the home for the upcoming season because of its warm, natural, and timeless esthetic. Wood also complements white kitchens very well."
Cool and Clean keeps it simple
Cool and Clean
Get more with less. Simple elegance and clean lines return this season. Influenced by Japanese minimalism, hardware vanishes for cabinetry, keeping it free of knobs and pulls. As seen in the AVANI ARC Collection, high gloss and matte finishes contrast for a crisp, eye-catching accentuation.
Rich tones adds luxury to Royal Indulgence
Royal Indulgence
You don’t need a palace to feel luxury in the home. Rich jewel tones and lustrous finishes bring extravaganza to the smallest of spaces. Mink browns, deep reds, and grays sweep across cabinetry doors and walls for a big impact.
Black glass is available in a dramatic palette of colors, such as Crimson, Anthracite, Oyster, and Pitch Black. Integrated appliances blend seamlessly into the space- without taking away from a kitchen’s dramatic appeal.
Space Saving Solutions
Full extend pull out drawers, and spice racks, keep everything in reach; while built-in compartments for compost and recycling take the mess and hassle out of waste removal. "One of the best solutions we offer South Asians with busy kitchens, with loads of spices, are narrow vertical spice racks that hide behind a three-inch post,” says Marcus. “When closed it reads as a decorative detail but pulled out, all the spices are perfectly accessible right beside the stove, and only one row deep, so no trouble finding spices hidden deep inside a cabinet."
