Fall Hair Trends
Michael Shire, a Color Director at the prestigious Holts Salon & Spa in Toronto, recently received a Goldwell Color Zoom Trophy for winning Canadian Color Zoom competition. “It was such an honour, an absolutely amazing feeling,” says Shire. We chatted with the award-winning Color Director to find out what the latest hair colour trends for fall are.
According to Shire, the ombre trend is on its way out, making solids a popular choice once again. “For fall, you’ll be seeing a lot of warmer, richer colours. Reds are huge! The 1940s poppy red of the Hollywood starlets is all the craze right now.”
If you’re thinking of changing your hair colour this fall, Shire has a few tips for you to keep the new colour fresh:
1. Use sulfate-low or sulfate-free shampoo
Chroma Sensitive by Kerastase is a great one that Shire uses on his clients. “Sulfate strips colour from hair so it’s important that your shampoo has as little of it as possible, for longer lasting colour.”

2. Wash your hair less
“I can’t stress this point enough. I tell all my clients that hair shouldn’t be washed more than 2-3 times a week. Not only does colour stay longer, but your hair also becomes much healthier and more manageable.”
3. Glossing.
“In between colourings, come in for a gloss. It can be applied as a separate service or while you’re getting your hair washed for a blowout. Glossing takes only 10-15 minutes and rejuvenates colour instantly! It’s an absolute necessity to keep your colour looks radiant."
