1. You Gain Weight Because Your Body Cannot Process Wheat Or Dairy
Fact: If your body is unable to process a food, it would mean that the calories wouldn’t be absorbed, nor would the food be metabolized, which would cause weight loss, not gain. Furthermore, there is no scientific evidence that a food allergy causes weight gain. By eliminating food choices that contain dairy or wheat, you will lose weight because you will be limited in your choices of food.
2. Aspartame Causes Cancer
Fact: Aspartame, an artificial sweetener sold under the names of Equal, Splenda, and added in drinks such as Diet Coke have been linked to various health effects. Till date, there has been no scientific proof that aspartame leads to health issues, or any evidence of harm.
3. Being Thin Is Healthier Than Being Fat
Fact: Society stems from the ideology that when a person is thin, they are generally more healthy than someone who would be overweight. Although there is a growing epidemic of obesity within society, being underweight can be worse. A study conducted by researchers at Tohoku University discovered that those who are overweight at 40 are likely to live longer than those who are underweight, as they are at a greater risk of pneumonia and heart disease.
4. Eating Late At Night Will Make You Gain Weight
Fact: According to studies conducted by Oregon Health & Science University and Dunn Nutrition Centre, the quantity of food counts more than the time you consume food. If you have missed meals throughout the day and decide to eat during the evening, it will only impact your weight if you burned the amount of calories that you ate during the day.
5. You Will Have A Fair Baby If You Eat Saffron
Fact: Unfortunately in South Asian society where fairness creams generate a revenue of over $400 million a year, mothers are often told that in order to have a fair child they should have saffron. Saffron can actually be extremely harmful if taken in large quantities as studies have reported high dosages being linked to untimely contractions and even miscarriage. Having saffron or kesar will not make your child fair, nor will having iron pills make your child dark. It is only the parents genetics that will influence the child’s complexion.
6.Having Milk After Eating Fish Will Make You Sick
Fact: A popular common misconception in South Asian countries is that the combination of milk and fish can cause skin pigmentation as well as cause an upset stomach. This belief stems from Ayurveda, as the belief is that if you eat foods that go well together, you can avoid forming toxic substances and fat. Fish and milk are both protein, and there is no proof that they are harmful if consumed together.
7. Oysters And Chocolates Are An Aphrodisiac
Fact: Oysters have high levels of zinc, which control progesterone levels. Zinc deficiencies can cause impotence in men, which is why oysters are commonly misconstrued to be an aphrodisiac, even though there is no proof of it affecting the libido. Chocolates contain phenylethylamine, the chemical that releases endorphins to make you feel joyful, yet studies prove that chocolate doesn’t affect your brain in any way.
