Flesh-tone nails are always a popular pick for runways and it makes good fashion sense. They’re like that one accessory that goes with anything. Here are some tricks to help make sure you’re rocking the look the right way.
-
Instead of creating a squared tip, round out the edges of your nails. Aside from looking more natural—which is kind of what we’re going for with this colour trend—nails with a rounded tip actually make your fingers look longer and more slender.
-
When trying to find the right nail polish colour, the ideal shade will be one that complements your skin’s undertones. But if you’re not familiar with undertones or you’re unsure of what your skin’s undertone is, don’t worry because you can still wear the trend. The beauty of this monochromatic look is that you don’t need to worry about matching your skin tone exactly. In fact, a slightly darker or lighter hue can actually work better. Your bare nails are not naturally the same colour as your skin (at least they shouldn’t be) so your polish doesn’t need to be either.
-
Go for a high-shine finish rather than matte. Because you’re using a polish in the same colour palette as your skin, nixing the sheen will end up giving your hands a creepy, dead-girl kind of look and that’s never attractive.
-
This tip will pretty much change your life when it comes to painting your nails at home. Before applying the polish, use a Q-tip to cover the skin around your cuticles in a layer of Vaseline; try not to get it on the actual nail bed. Now when you polish, you don’t need to worry about accidentally getting the colour on your skin and then rushing to wipe it off before it dries. The Vaseline acts as a barrier so excess polish wipes off in one easy swipe, even after it dries.

The nude nail is right on trend but if the look is just not funky enough for your bold spirit, here are a few ways you can change it up to suit your style.
-
Nail art is always a fun way to enhance monochrome polish. To add a creative, textured effect but still stick with the whole nude effect, pick an accent polish that’s a shade or two darker than your base. Keep the design simple, like polka dots (try using the ball end of a bobby pin) or a basic checker pattern.
-
Do a French manicure but with the nude colour as the base. Traditional white tips are always a safe bet but if you’re feeling a little extra adventurous, try a contrasting colour instead, or a reverse moon mani.
-
Some girls just like a little extra sparkle but a full coat on every nail kind of defeats the purpose of nude coloured polish. Add some gold or copper shimmer to just the ring finger on each hand or try a sparkly ombre effect. Once the base coat is completely dry, use a glitter polish as a topcoat but only on the top half of the nail. Once that’s dry, do another coat of the glitter but only on the tips.
