Fall is upon us and it's time to get cozy with the scents of the season throughout our homes.
One of the most comforting things about the fall season is the warm and spicy scents we get to experience all around us. From pine trees and cinnamon to cloves and ginger, fall is about warming up through the senses.
Here are some easy, do-it-yourself scents you can make at home to create a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere for you and your guests.
RECIPE #1: AUTUMN'S AROMA
Homemade potpourri.

Ingredients
1 apple, sliced
1 orange, sliced and zested
1 cinnamon stick broken into shards
5 cloves
5 cardamon pods, broken open
Grated ginger
8 cups of water
Directions
1. In a saucepan, on medium heat, combine together all the ingredients.
2. Once water comes to a boil, reduce heat to the lowest setting and allow mixture to simmer slowly.
Homemade citrus potpourri.

Ingredients
1 lemon, sliced and zested
1 grapefruit, sliced and zested
A few sprigs of rosemary
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
8 cups of water
Directions

RECIPE #3: RAAT KI RANI
Jasmine garland.

Ingredients
8 cups of water
1 bottle of jasmine essential oil
1 bottle of lemongrass essential oil (optional)
Directions
1. In a saucepan, on medium heat, bring 8 cups of water to a boil.
2. Squeeze in 10 to 20 drops of jasmine essential oil.
3. Put heat to lowest setting and allow water to simmer as smell billows.
4. Add some drops of lemongrass for a perfect scent pairing.
3 TIPS FOR YOUR DIY HOME SCENT RECIPES
Spray bottle perfect for creating your own scented spray.

Once you finish with the recipes above, discard the solids and pour the water into an inexpensive spray bottle. Now you have an all-natural spritz to spray into the air to freshen the smell indoors or to use as a linen spray on your sheets and pillows.

The scented water from the recipes above can simply be put into mini mason jars. Keep some of the solids to add some decorative flair and put these jars throughout your home. Pop off the lids to bring in the scent, and pop them back on when you're done. Add a floating votive candle on top for ambience. You can even add a few drops of your favourite esentials oils too.

This is possibly the most fun way to use your scented water. Buy an at-home candle-making kit and just mix in some of the scented water with the candle wax. Use the solids to help add character to your candles. Burn at your desire. (Be sure to follow the instructions with the kit you buy for optimal results.)
