Film: Dhoom 3
Director: Vijay Acharya
Cast: Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra, Jackie Shroff
Rating: 3.5/5
Dhoom 3 is the most awaited Bollywood film of the year. The third edition of the action series comes in after a wait for almost seven years. We all know that we wouldn’t watch the film for the story – it is about an intelligent cop (Abhishek Bachchan) and his sidekick (Uday Chopra) chasing a clever thief that outwits them every time and finally bows out in style. We also know that common sense and the laws of physics are kept aside as we watch the film. Instead, fans watch Dhoom for the action and stunts that defies the laws of gravity, the style that becomes the fashion statement of the nation, the thrill that keeps us on the edge of the seat and the stunning sets and location that takes us to a different world. With these objectives, Dhoom 3 is certainly an entertainer – a ‘paisa vasool’ movie!
The anti-hero in the film always draws the attention in Dhoom. With a new director (Vijay Acharya) this time, the story of the film has a more emotional element. The motive behind the series of the robberies is explained. Set in Chicago, Aamir Khan (Sahir) is a circus performer who carries out the theft to avenge his father’s (Jackie Shroff) death. As a child, Aamir witness his father kill himself as he could not repay the bank loan. An adult Aamir now pledges to destroy the bank.
Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra’s role is significantly reduced and at times the production house must be wondering if they need to add a new face to the duo if they were to come with a new edition. The desi action entry shot of Abhishek in an autorickshaw is bound to get some cheer with the masses. Uday’s ‘mummy’ humor does throw in some comic relief. Katrina Kaif looks stunning and has a role that at best can be described a cameo. However, she does not disappoint her fans. The Kamli number will make the audience go ga-ga over her fitness and flexibility.
Yes, there are times during the movie when you think it is long (almost 3 hours), the film is predictable and there are too many chases but overall Dhoom 3 does not disappoint its fans. Lots of action, thrill and super chase sequences. The film revolves around Aamir Khan and it is he who makes the film work. The perfectionist was perhaps the perfect fit to play this role.
With the holiday season upon us, Dhoom 3 can be that entertaining flick you can digest with the whole family for a good ole dose of Bollywood action.
