Miley Cyrus
The face of controversies today, Cyrus has faced the audience’s wrath for her hyper-sexualized persona that she has been projecting, which has come as a shock for anyone who remembers her from her girl-next-door ‘Hannah Montana’ days. Her MMVA performance with Rob Thicke, the ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video that shows a 20 year old Cyrus fully nude. More recently, she did the ultimate controversial thing by smoking pot onstage during EMAs, and naturally the internet has exploded. Will she be able to top this already huge rise to fame with her attention-grabbing tactics, tactics people are hating but can’t get enough of.
KimYe
Hollywood power-couple nowadays is not Brangelina, it’s the engaged couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. They are both the ultimate couple of controversies. Kim Kardashian is still badmouthed by many on the internet for having started her career off a leaked sex tape, eventually landing the money-making reality TV gig ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’. Her high-profile and very expensive(paid via sponsorships) wedding to Chris Humphries lasted a mere 72 days, cementing the popular belief that the wedding was a publicity stunt. With media criticism of her tremendous pregnancy weight gain, it seems like Kardashian simply cannot catch a break. Kanye West is the butt of Internet jokes with his “I’mma let you finish” memes still circulating, years after his famous interruption of Taylor Swift’s VMA speech.
Kristen Stewart
Stewart is another celebrity who has many memes being posted on the internet, mainly to do with her (supposed)lack of facial expression when acting. She also gets heavily criticized for her portrayal of the fictional character Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight’ series. Last year, media frenzy followed the revelation that she had cheated on Robert Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders. The same year, however, Stewart was also the highest paid Hollywood actress of the time. Negative criticism clearly agrees with her.
Lindsay Lohan
Quite unlike Miley Cyrus, Lohan’s career is in a downward spiral, with repeated DUIs and pot smoking charges. She has been in and out of rehab and the court various times. However the ‘Mean Girls’ star knows how to make the news and stay in the news, and while her role playing Elizabeth Taylor in ‘Liz & Dick’ was widely criticized, it effectively put her back on the map as a bankable celebrity.
Charlie Sheen
Sheen always finds ways to stay in the news, intentionally or unintentionally. After making a killing playing a millionaire playboy – much like his real self- Sheen was famously fired from ‘Two And A Half Men’ for his attitude towards show producers. His subsequent meltdown on Youtube, where he expressed his great mental anguish, went viral. The resultant aptly titled ‘Anger Management’ has him receiving a great salary again. While he is known for domestic abuse against his wives/partners, lately he has also been caught saying homophobic slurs. The words, caught on video, was released by TMZ, to which Sheen later apologized saying he meant to harm.
