Today marks the day when, 20 years ago, Yash Raj Films released the epic love story between Raj and Simran known to the world as the classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are currently shooting for their upcoming film Dilwale, but everyone knows Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge marked a career change for both of them. The chemistry between the two was mind-blowing, and every time you watch the film, you fall in love again.
Apparently, there was even a time when SRK nearly turned down the film He said he didn't feel he could do Raj justice, as he was so different from his own personality. Can you imagine DDLJ without Shah Rukh Khan? He even went on to say he thought the film was too girlish.
Below, to mark the anniversary of this amazing love story, we look at the 10 best moments of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
1. Raj Steals the Beer

If Raj had never stolen the beers from Baldev Singh's shop, then he may have had an easier time convincing him that he was the right man for his daughter.
2. Raj Fails

If you fail. it's difficult to even show your face in front of your parents — but not when it comes to Raj's pops. In fact, the character played by Anupam Kher is proud of his son for failing, as he is keeping with the family tradition.
3. The Train

This is probably one of the most iconic moments in the history of Bollywood. It's amazing how both Raj and Simran are late for the train. In true Bollywood style, he holds out his hand to help her onto the train just as the doors are about to close. It's not far from the truth when you say everyone has dreamed about meeting their true love in the same way.
4. Raj Drops Simran

This is the type of love that you can't make up, that SRK and Kajol chemistry. In true Raj style, at the end of the song "Ruk Ja O Dil Diwane," he drops Simran. Funnily enough, sources have said that Kajol didn't know this was going to happen — and judging by the look on her face, it seems like she was in total shock. She was actually annoyed by SRK's rudeness.
5. Raj and Simran Miss The Train

Of course, Raj couldn't be stranded with anyone else but Simran when both of them missed the train. As always, it's the guy's fault. What makes this scene funnier is that Simran bursts into tears when she realizes she's stranded with one of history's worst travellers.
6. Simran Gets Drunk

Have you ever met that girl? The good Indian girl? The one who doesn't do anything her father would disapprove of? Well, this is what happens when you let her loose on a bottle or two. Simran not only sees Raj in a new light but we as an audience also get to see a new side of Simran.
7. "Palat"
Following the train scene, this is the second most epic scene of all time — the moment Simran turns to look at Raj before she walks away. Something all guys now use to see whether a girl likes him or not. Agar woh tujse pyaar karti hai, toh woh paltegi. Palat. Palat. Palat. And of course, she does.
8. Feeding the Birds

When stealing beer in London, Raj didn't know this would turn out to haunt him throughout his romantic life. The scene between Raj and Baldev as he tries to win over the father of the bride makes you laugh every time. As Amrish Puri feeds the pigeons while saying Aao, Raj stands behind him making a "phurrr" sound.
9. The Truth

That moment when daddy finds out his daughter does not love his best friend's son whom she's supposed to be marrying but instead the boy that randomly turned up at their house. By this point, we know Baldev is a stubborn man, and crossing his path is a no-no. So imagine the uproar when he finds out Raj loves Simran. That slap hurt more than just Raj. It was followed by a heartwarming speech by Raj that echoes with most young people when they go against their parents' wishes.
10. The Final Train Ride

The train is about to take Simran's love away one more time. Finally, her dad gives in as he realizes that no one will love his daughter more than Raj and she won't be happier with anyone else. What can any dad do at this point but give in and let his daughter go?
