Carrie Underwood has brought Alpana Neeraj in the limelight once again as she sizzled in the duo’s creations at the 47th Annual CMA Awards on November 6, in Nashville. She sported two of the designer label’s creations, a black and gold mesh cocktail dress with gold leather detailing and a black smoke print peplum outfit with mesh inserts.

This is not the first time that the couple has received international recognition for its unique designs. Alpana and Neeraj made their debut at the Wills India Fashion Week in 2008. They’re both National Institute of Fashion Technology graduates who shot to fame globally with their unconventional, innovative designs and experimentation with style and materials.
The duos collections have been appreciated globally and their brands ‘AZARA’ and ‘alpananeeraj’ are well-known in India and abroad.
When questioned in an interview with MidDay.com about the 'high point of their career' they had this to say, “When we were invited to show at the Milan Fashion Week alongside icons like Armani, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana. Another would have to be when our favourite singer and muse Lady Gaga wore one of our outfits. We always imagined someone like her — bold, fearless and theatrical — to wear our garments. Other small moments were our garment being featured in America’s Next Top Model, on the Winner of The Voice and on various X-Factor performances”.

According to the duo, the most surprising appearance in their creation was made by “Shingai Shoniwa at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn premiere – she chose to wear the gown we designed entirely out of surgical masks. We love that dress, but we never thought someone would be brave enough to wear it on the red carpet!”

Despite making their presence felt all over the world, the duo is proud of its roots. They maintain that “We’ve never made conscious efforts to incorporate Indian handicrafts or fabrics into our work, but I believe our garments have a soul that’s Indian. Designed by Indian designers, stitched by Indian craftsmen and embroidered by Indian artisans…. We’re very proud that our team of tailors comes from some of the most remote villages in the country and are not only experts in traditional garment construction, but also now extremely proficient at western techniques like corsetry, gown construction and drapery”.

Having dressed several renowned faces on the international film and music scene, Alpana and Neeraj have also expressed their desire to dress Sridevi in one of their looks.
