Harnoor Gill, a 15 year old Canadian Sikh, has received numerous awards such as the 'Young Conservationist' as a result of his outstanding contribution to society.
Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 15 under 15, Harnoor has proven to be an influential leader in Georgetown, Ontario. His outstanding contributions to humanitarian work resulted in him being awarded with the 2013 International Diana Award.
Harnoor wants to live in a world where everyone is treated equally and widespread peace is prosperous. His character has been molded by the way in which he was treated during his time in elementary school. Bullied by many, Harnoor was encouraged by his parents to volunteer and manage his time effectively. As a result of life experiences, he envisions a world where literacy skills are improved, both worldwide and locally. His decision to take an active role in society is highlighted by his role as founder of the Peace Welcome Club (PWC).
The PWC’s objective is to encourage young people to volunteer for the purpose of building peace. Harnoor decided to raise awareness on poverty and the impact it has on local and international communities. After traveling to diverse locations, the young leader took on a new initiative: to improve literacy skills. One of the PWC’s most outstanding initiatives is a project that focuses on the distribution of books to underprivileged children. The ultimate goal of this project was to collect books and donate them to individuals in Ontario and India.

At first, the project proved to be very difficult to undertake because Harnoor was working alone. Despite this barrier, he wrote to numerous newspapers, in addition to advertising his cause in publications for the purpose of raising sponsors. He also bought books from garage sales and asked for help from book stores. As a result of these efforts, thousands of books were collected and distributed to a wide range of destinations. One such example is the books donated to the Native Women’s Centre, located in Hamilton, Ontario.
Harnoor’s dreams are an inspiration to all. By initiating this project, he has been able to inspire other individuals to take a proactive role with regard to building peace. Harnoor and his team were all acknowledged for their hard work and courageous efforts. Now, the young leader dreams of extending this initiative to a universal level. If this project initiates in other communities, positive attitudes towards improving the lives of many will become widespread.
Harnoor takes great pride in his cause and uses social media as a tool for raising awareness. All of the projects that he takes on are run under the main facebook page. Show your support by liking the facebook page and help Harnoor is his mission.
