Blush is one of my favourite makeup products to use and I do believe it seems to be underrated.
It adds colour, joy, and looks oh so beautiful above a smile. There are so many different formulations for blush – crème, powder, and even stain. I love them all!
Here are my favourites along with the best techniques for application.
Crème blush is amazing for women with dry skin. It goes on smoothly and it is easy to blend. The only draw back is it may look too shiny in photos.
Simply use your fingers to apply. While smiling, apply to the apples of cheeks and blend upwards.
M.A.C carries some really beautiful colours for crème blushes. They go on smoothly and evenly and are also quite moisturizing as well as long lasting. M.A.C in my opinion has truly mastered the blush. The formula, colour selection, as well as price you simply can’t beat.

I also adore the crème blushes by Elizabeth Arden. I love that they can be used both on lips and cheeks. The pigment is really gorgeous as well. The colour formulations in pink as well as plum look great on all skin tones and the container also has a little mirror for easy application.

Powder blush is fantastic in that you can layer on how sheer or opaque you like it. The Quo Professional brushes are a great tool to use when applying. Simply swirl evenly and gently shake brush so the remnants fall off. Apply to apples of cheeks symmetrically and blend upward. Everything relating to makeup application should be applied in an upward motion (just like a facelift).
Another one of my favourite blushes is Orgasm by Nars. It has become such an iconic colour that Nars has now created a whole collection including 'Super Orgasm', the glitterier sister. This blush looks great on every skin tone, applies evenly and lasts all day and night.

Blush stain is fantastic for more oily skin. It really tends to stay on and look great. Apply with the little applicator and blend quickly with fingers (the warmth helps to make it blend easier). You can also use many blush stains on your lips as well. Make sure to wash your hands as it will stain your fingers.
For best results, wash and gently exfoliate your face, followed by a light weight moisturizer. If you add too much by accident, use a little powder to tone it down. If you add too little, keep layering until you get the desired result.
'Posietint' by Benefit is a truly amazing cheek and lip stain. It looks amazing on all skin tones, allows time for blending with a streak free result, and the colour lasts without drying out skin.

Another favourite of mine is the Balm Stainiac. It comes in 3 different colour tones: sheer berry pink and sheer rosy pink – both of which are gorgeous and sheer peach which is difficult to find. It goes on smoothly, for a perfect natural glow.

If you're out of blush but in need of rosing up those cheeks, use lipstick by dotting it around the cheeks and then blend.
Confused about cool and warm undertone colours? Cool colours contain blue undertones for example: lavender, violet and light pink while warm colours (the majority of women suit these shades) contain yellow undertones. Examples of this would be apricot, salmon and coral.
For light olive skin tones, apricots and light pinks look amazing.
For a medium-dark complexion, berry tones and deep pinks are fantastic.
For dark complexions, more vibrant pinks may be used as well as plums for cherub cheeks.
