9 South Asian Films To Watch This Month

Summertime means lazy days full of entertainment and a new collection of South Asian films to watch.

Check out our list of nine South Asian films to watch this month.

1. Raaz Reboot

Director: Vikram Bhatt
Starring: Emraan Hashmi, Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora
Release Date: June 3rd, 2016

Raaz Reboot is a Bollywood thriller from the well-known Raaz film series. Although the last two films have starred Emraan Hashmi as well, they don't follow any particular story. Each film stands alone.

Actress Kriti Karbanda will be debuting in the picture.

2. Vaapsi
Director: Rakesh Mehta
Starring: Harish Verma, Sameksha, Gulshan Grover, Ashish Duggal and Dhriti Saharan
Release Date: June 3rd, 2016

Vaapsi is the story of a group of youngsters who left their country after the 1984 massacre to survive and settle in other countries. Now, years later, they want to return to their native homes.

3. Do Lafzon Ki Kahani
Director: Deepak Tijori
Starring: Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal
Release Date: June 10th, 2016

Do Lafzon Ki Kahani is based on a 2011 Korean film called Always, which has already been adapted as a Kannada movie called Boxer. The story is based on a mixed martial arts fighter who falls in love with a visually challenged girl.

The director chose to use guerrilla-style filmmaking while shooting in Malaysia. He wanted to capture the authentic ambience and not let on that a film shoot was taking place.

4. Dulla Bhatti
Director: Minar Malhotra
Starring: Binnu Dhillon, Sardar Sohi, B.N. Sharma, Aman Hundal and Dev Kharoud
Release Date: June 10th, 2016

Dulla Bhatti is based on the life of Dulla Bhatti, known as the Son of Punjab or the Robin Hood of Punjab. In medieval India, he led a revolt against Mughal rule and the reigning emperor Akbar.

Bhatti's class war took the form of social banditry, taking from the rich and giving to the poor. He also opposed the abduction and selling of girls into slavery, arranging marriages for them and also providing their dowries.

5. Te3n
Director: Ribhu Dasgupta
Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vidya Balan and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty
Release Date: June 10th, 2016

Te3n is an upcoming thriller, a remake of the South Korean film Montage. Vidya Balan plays a cop in the film, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a priest.

Together with Amitabh Bachchan's character, they team up to investigate a kidnapping that is very similar to an unsolved eight-year-old case.

6. Once Upon a Time in Amritsar
Director: Harjit Singh Ricky
Starring: Dilpreet Dhillon, Gurjind Mann, Tanvi Nagi, Sonia Kaur and Pavan Malhotra
Release Date: June 10th, 2016

Once Upon a Time in Amritsar is a fast-paced investigation thriller set in the present-day streets of Mumbai. Inspired by true events, the film revolves around a hostage crisis and what follows in the seven hours after the incident.

The film was originally supposed to release in April. However, it failed to clear the censor board — especially when the controversial trailer was released, showing the actors pointing guns at each other with the Golden Temple in the background.

7. Udta Punjab
Director: Abhishek Chaubey
Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh
Release Date: June 17th, 2016

With Shahid, Kareena and Alia, you'd think Udta Punjab was a lighthearted comedy — but it's the absolute opposite, falling into the crime thriller category. The film is based on the mafia and drug abuse Punjab. All three stars, alongside Punjab superstar Diljit Dosanjh, play pivotal roles in the film.

Despite being in the film together, Shahid and Kareena allegedly don't share a single frame.

8. Raman Raghav 2.0
Director: Anurag Kashyap
Starring: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal
Release Date: June 24th, 2016

June seems to be a month for thrillers, with Raghav Raman 2.0 also releasing. This film is based on the serial killer Raman Raghav, who terrorized the streets of Mumbai during the 1960s.

He used a regular steel rod to reduce human faces to severed heads and broken skulls. When the police caught him, he admitted to 41 murders.

9. Sardaarji 2
Director: Rohit Jugraj
Starring: Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, Monica Gill and Jaswinder Bhalla
Release Date: June 24th, 2016

After the success of Sardaarji, the team headed over to Australia to shoot the second instalment. Much to his surprise, Diljit was mobbed by fans at the airport when he landed. During shooting, Diljit ended up rescuing Sonam and some of the team from a horrible incident.

The best part of this film, which will definitely entice you, is that Diljit hired Ranbir Kapoor's trainer and undertook some intense training to gain a six-pack.
