Raoul Juneja creates a larger platform for South Asian artists on OMNI's newest television show, V-Mix.
Raoul Juneja, has been busy these day working his hardest on OMNI Television's first South Asian geared music program, V-Mix.
V-Mix is Canada's first contemporary South Asian music TV show, which showcases interviews and music videos from artists of all genres — R&B, Rock, Jazz, Hip-hop and the list goes on.
This multicultural music program which airs on ROGERS' OMNI Television, focuses on South Asian artists, independent Canadian artists of all backgrounds and a variety of performing arts ranging from dancers to poets to even YouTube comedians.
Raoul is the music coordinator, news presenter and one of the interviewers on V-Mix. You can find him interviewing various artists from the South Asian and Canadian urban music scenes. Having a deejay background, Raoul agrees that it has helped him with this show. He started his deejay days ten years ago at The University of Western Ontario as a TV host and columnist on various college media outlets. He later decided that he wanted to get a better idea of the behind-the-scenes world, and after university, began producing various radio and TV shows, as well as contributing to a variety of print media outlets, including Word magazine for a number of years, before moving on to doing op-eds for Canada's national newspaper, The Globe & Mail.
He later found himself producing films and soundtracks. He produced "Hip-Hop 4 Africa" a documentary about the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Canada and their "Hip-Hop 4 Africa" concert in Toronto, which was hosted by CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos and featured performances from notable artists including Melanie Durrant, Citizen Kane and other Toronto urban heavyweights. He produced the Toronto stop of Billboard Chart-topper, Jay Sean's All or Nothing album release tour. He also produced and hosted several music video nights at various South Asian festivals including Toronto's FILMI Festival and India International Film Festival in Tampa Bay Florida, which was supported by none other than, Snoop Dogg.
He works extra hard to bring the best to his viewers and he surely does not let anyone down. V-Mix is one show that you do not want to miss. It's not lost him that getting a program like this in the works has been his long-held dream. "Several years ago it was almost impossible to find, what I refer to as, 'contemporary' South Asian music videos on Canadian TV, especially artists from the Hip-Hop and R&B genres," Raoul explains. "OMNI has a long history of supporting South Asian Canadian artists, so they were the first I approached to consider premiering many of these artists' videos on Canadian television for the first time, through their flagship show Bollywood Boulevard. Through some great audience support and pitching behind-the-scenes between myself alongside Nalin Bakhle and Suzy Soares at OMNI, helped lead us to Canada's first South Asian music TV show".
Raoul loves everything about the show , including working with his co-workers, his producers, camera operators, editors, directors as well as host Dilshad, who is one of a few TV personalities who shares his passion in supporting South Asian and Canadian music scenes in the big way they do.
V-MIx airs each Sunday on OMNI TV at 5:30 PM (PST) in British Columbia/ 6:30 PM (MDT) in Alberta/ 7:30 PM (EST) in Ontario. You can also visit http://www.omnitv.ca/ontario/tv/v-mix/.
