May Blooms With An Eclectic Mix Of Bollywood Films For One & All.
May is a star-studded month at the Bolly box office with some of our A-list faves making it to the big screen. But you know big celebrities don't guarantee a good storyline — and they certainly don't guarantee big box office collections. Still, here's hoping that this month is full of films we can love and enjoy.
PIKU
Piku is a comedy-drama directed by Shoojit Sircar. Deepika Padukone portrays the protagonist, a Bengali architect living in New Delhi, and lead co-star Amitabh Bachchan plays her ageing father. The film explores the dynamics of their relationship as they take a road trip to Kolkata. Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta also star in the film. What makes this an interesting watch is that it will be one of the first times we see Deepika and Amitabh onscreen together — the apex of cross-generational talent from Indian cinema. Apparently, Irrfan Khan and Deepika play love interests, which definitely makes this a must-watch on our movie list this month.
Bombay Velvet is a Bollywood crime drama directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and based on historian Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables. Set in the Bombay of the 1960s, the film tells the story of a boxer, Johnny Balraj, and an aspiring jazz singer, Rosie, and how their hopes and dreams collide with their individual realities. This picture stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles with legendary filmmaker Karan Johar also facing the camera.
Aside from the fresh onscreen pairing and the interest in seeing Karan Johar show off his acting chops, any film by Mr. Kashyap is a film worth seeing. This one promises lots of suspense and entertainment. Fingers crossed that it's a good one!
Tanu Weds Manu Returns is the sequel to 2011's wildly popular film Tanu Weds Manu. In this sequel, Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan reprise their roles from the original. With Kangana riding high on the success of Queen, this film is a sure shot at the box office and it guarantees a lot of fun, masti and colour.
