Bipasha Basu Returns With A New Horror Flick & Continues Her Reign As Bollywood’s ‘Scream Queen’
Entertainment Oct 30, 2015
Bollywood's very own "queen of fear" Bipasha Basu is back at it again with a new project from the horror genre — a genre she believes still has some hope left in Indian cinema!
You may be wondering where she's been all these years, but Bipasha Basu is exactly where she belongs: B-town! The B-town Basu is calling home is certainly not the Bollywood cinema we have come to know and love over the years, but instead it's television where Basu takes on new territory. In Basu's latest project she plays host on a brand new horror TV series called Darr Sabko Lagta Hai (We All Get Fearful) which begins on Saturday, October 31st on And TV.
Darr Sabko Lagta Hai will mark Basu's debut into television. That's right honey, it's not all about Quantico!

Want more deets on Darr Sabko Lagta Hai? The show isn't your typical run of the mill primetime entertainment watch. The show will showcase a new format altogether: Instead of a new episode weekly which progress the storyline of an entire typical TV season, each episode will be a brand new short film with 26 short films in total and 26 different directors. Fun, right?
"It’s a super concept. The channel is pushing the horror genre to another level because they have made these really amazing short films with all budding directors. The show will show fear in every possible form. It will feature good special effects and a better production value. It will showcase something that we haven’t seen on Indian television before" Basu said.

Why horror? Basu has been synonymous with the genre right from the start of her career. Her first big blockbuster hit was Raaz in 2002 with Dino Morea which was the remake of What Lies Beneath. The film was the first to really explore the supernatural and horror genre in a modern and contemporary fashion. Raaz's success cemented Basu in mainstream hindi cinema and gave birth to the popularity of a genre that struggled to gain an identity strong enough to compete with familiar and well loved genres such as love stories, family dramas and action films in years prior. Since then she has starred in more horror flicks and supernatural thrillers such as the Raaz franchise's third installment Raaz 3 as well as Aatma, 3D horror thriller Creature and most recently Alone.

While Priyanka Chopra is known to be Bollywood's "action girl" and Sonam Kapoor B-town's "fashionista," our very own Bips is very proud to take on all the tags given to her based on her association with the horror genre: "sceam queen", "queen of fear", "scream goddess" and many more.
In fact, Basu believes that amidst all the love stories, epic period-based dramas and action films, horror is one of the only genres left in India cinema that has been untapped, and not fully explored. “If I’m promoting a genre which is so exciting and it definitely is the only genre, where the scope is still left, because everything else is over exhausted in India. So, I’m very happy to be associated so strongly with this genre,” Basu said recently.
"I don't like to follow the norm, the typical way of doing things. I've never done it and I like to be a little unpredictable. But the only predictability in my case has been that I am still supporting and encouraging a genre (horror) which has still not got its due respect."
"I didn't want to do the predictable dance and music reality judging show which is also a lot of fun to see. And I think this (horror) is right up my alley, it's my home turf . . . horror, and it's a genre which needs encouragement," she added.
We agree Bips! No more love stories and running around the trees.
