My Laser Hair Removal Experience
I was very excited to try laser hair removal for the first time. This is a method I had always been interested in trying, yet I didn't know where to go and have always preferred a referral. I went to see Kavita Suri at the Infuse Med Spa at 4 Charles Street East, Toronto, on the second floor. She was extremely professional and friendly. She states that laser hair removal has come a very long way in the last 10 years. Originally, an IPL system (which stands for "intense pulsed light") was used. The best results were obtained through the most contrast — with fair skin and dark hair. The IPL system heated up to 65 degrees, which is quite hot, and not only burned hair but also could burn skin, especially where the contrast was not as evident, such as with South Asians.
Kavita Suri highly recommended the Soprano XL system. The light sheer technology now only heats up to 45 degrees celsius, so the hair gets burned, not the skin. "This is a perfect choice for women of South Asian background. In order to prepare for laser hair removal, no waxing or threading should be done for at least six weeks. Shaving the night before is recommended," Kavita states.

Aviva Rubin is the aesthetician who performed the laser hair removal treatment on my underarm. I lied down on a comfortable massage table with my arm up. We both wore UV goggles for eye protection. A gel was applied to my underarm and the laser passed along my underarm region. The whole process took about three minutes and it was completely painless.
Kavita let me know to expect results in about seven to eight days and that I would need a series of six to eight treatments for major results. Intervals of six weeks are necessary between treatments. Laser hair removal doesn't remove hair permanently; however, after treatments are completed, hair production goes down by 90%. Treatment for underarms is $75 per session, which in my opinion is very affordable, considering how much many women spend on razors, waxing and depilatory creams.

Kavita informed me that this treatment is safe for all women — including South Asian women with darker skin tones. I very much look forward to going back to Infuse Medspa to continue the treatments for fuzz-free underarms!
There are many benefits to laser hair removal. The price, the very quick time commitment for the pain-free procedure as well as permanent hair reduction are why I would go back.
