Legendary UK Bhangra Artist Joins Notable Canadian Film Actor And Comic As Part Of The #ANOKHI12 Lineup

The latest to have confirmed attendance to ANOKHI MEDIA's 12th Anniversary gala are Bollywood bhangra legend Manj Musik, film actor Vinay Virmani (Dr. Cabbie) and Canadian comic Danish Anwar.

As the boys get ready to celebrate some of the world’s biggest South Asian names at ANOKHI MEDIA’s 12^th Anniversary Awards gala set to take place on Saturday, March 28, 2015, we urge you to witness and be a part of the celebration honouring fellow South Asians in entertainment, fashion, media and lifestyle. The venue for the esteemed affair will be the historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto.

For over 13 years, Manj has been the lead vocalist and music producer for the global sensation RDB. Following the tragic death of Kuly, his brother and the band's founder, Manj ventured on to a solo career.

He has sung some of the most popular bhangra hits, such as "Singh Is King," "Shera Di Kaum," "Rafta Rafta," "Om Mangalam," "Yamla Pagla Dewana," "Aloo Chaat," "Aja Mahi" and "Tamanche Pe Disco" — to name a few. But it was his recent track "Desi Hip Hop" that brought rappers from across the globe to the Desi urban music scene for the first time.

Manj has also collaborated with some of the world’s most famous rap and hip-hop artists, including Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, T-Pain and Elephant Man. He'll be performing a special set during the award show, brought to you by Johnnie Walker.

A graduate of the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York, Vinay made his debut as an actor and writer with Breakaway (2011) featuring Rob Lowe, Anupam Kher, Sakina Jaffrey and Russell Peters.

Other films under his belt include the critically acclaimed Hindi dramatic film David (2013) and Dr. Cabbie (2014) produced by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The comedy stars Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory).

Danish Anwar is a Toronto-based stand-up comedian who sets himself apart with his style of comedy, which ranges from gender equality and racial discrimination to sex, relationships and so much more.

Born and raised in Moscow towards the end of the Cold War, he’s probably the world’s first and only Soviet-Born Indian-Bengali-Canadian comic and the founder of the comedy label Toronto Comedy All Stars.

His accomplishments include being a finalist in the Toronto Comedy Brawl in 2011, nominated for the Tim Sims Encouragement Award as one of Canada’s best new comedic prospects by The Second City in 2012, being invited to perform at the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival Gala and currently being part of Yuk Yuk’s “Fast Track” roster.

Danish was also a finalist in JFL42’s "Funniest Torontonian" search, and he was nominated by his peers for Producer Of The Year at the Toronto comedy scene’s annual I Heart Jokes Awards.

Watch out for this funny man to perform a special set during the ANOKHI Awards Show, brought to you by Johnnie Walker.

Radio and TV personality Ali Hassan jokes, “If you had to give this honour to one Indian-Bengali-Russian-Canadian comedian and show producer, then Danish is probably the one.”

Also in attendance will be Bollywood celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar showcasing her North American premiere, sponsored by L'Oréal Paris, and featuring a 20-minute runway show as part of the awards show.
