What's Your Passion
Ever come across what appears to be a very simple question and realized that you can’t seem to answer it cohesively? I pride myself in being the kind of woman who always has her ducks in a row, so I was thrown for a loop when asked the question: “What’s your passion?” a few months ago when we were planning this issue of ANOKHI as our very first passion-themed issue. Yes, I admit it; I was speechless. The reason why is because the word conjures up so many definitions. In any given moment and frame of mind, passion can relate to all aspects of living. “Where to begin?” was my question to myself. I guess, like most things, I could start at the beginning, but where exactly is that when everything in life routes from passion (at least in my world it does)? One question begged another, which then begged another, until I stopped and thought to myself: “Let’s start simple, as simplicity is the best foot forward to clarity, and clarity brings with it understanding.” So I asked myself a more defined question: “What’s the core of my passion?” Now that I can answer!
The core for me is my purpose, my reason for everything I do; my mantra: “Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi. I’m quite the girl for daily affirmations as they keep me focused and on track with my life’s journey, and most importantly, remind me that we have a duty that reaches far beyond ourselves. This particular quote I’ve used as a reoccurring affirmation over the past few years, since it keeps popping back into my life every now and again. Most recently, when I was in London, England, and I met my dear friend, actress-singer-songwriter, Karen David for an interview over dinner, she quoted it as a motto she lives by. It’s great when life places like-minded people in your path. I’ve known Karen for a little over three years now and although she’s been on the cover of ANOKHI in the past, (our 5th Anniversary edition in 2008), it was as part of our Annual Sexy & Successful List so knowing the theme of this particular issue, as well as the fact that if anyone lives life with passion, it’s Karen, I knew it was finally time to OPEN CHEST with her. This one folks, truly is an “open chest” in more ways than one, and to find out what I mean, flip to page 38 to read the full interview.
In keeping with the theme of this issue, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to experience a tremendous retreat vacation to feed one of my personal passions— the mind, body, soul connection. Accompanied by my long-time best friend, New York fashion designer, Alia Khan, we travelled to Napa Valley, California for some serious pampering at the luxury spa resort, The Vintage Estate in Yountville, for some first-time experiences in the heart of wine country. Read all about the three days that changed our lives, on page 108.
Until Next Time!
Be UNIQUE. Be ANOKHI.
