Whether you’re watching a Bollywood flick or a Hollywood blockbuster, here’s how to add South Asian flavour to your snacks.
Maple Masala
Ingredients
1 pound unsalted, raw nuts of your choice
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon garam masala
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions
Preheat oven to 300 F. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread nut mixture in a single layer on the baking sheet. Roast for 10 minutes, remove from oven and toss nuts. Return to oven and roast for another 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool and serve.
Chaat Masala Spicy
Ingredients
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup popping corn
4 tablespoons chaat masala
Directions
Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add popping corn and cover with a tight-fitting lid. Slide the pot back and forth over the burner. Continue sliding until popping slows and all kernels are popped. Remove from heat and transfer to a container or tin with a lid. Add chaat masala, cover and shake. Remove cover, pour into a large bowl and enjoy.
Mango Fizz
Ingredients
Ice
1/2 cup mango purée
1/2 cup lemon-lime soda
Lime wedge
Directions
Add ice to a tumbler glass. Pour mango purée over ice and top with soda. Garnish with a lime wedge.
