Our Favorite Holiday Looks Direct From The Runways

Decorated A-lines
At the Festive/Winter’16 show during Lakme Fashion Week all eyes weren’t just on Kareena Kapoor Khan as many might expect (although she did look festively fab to be fair). Prachi Desai was an entity unto herself, armed with a (jingle) bell-sleeved, cape-esqued choli lehenga in traditional A-line cut style. The ornate gold-on-black showstopper by designer duo Sonam and Paras Modi of fashion label SVA was a statement lehenga reminiscent of Renaissance gowns but fit for any fashion age. Zuhair Murad‘s Fall 2016 couture gown had more of a modern A-line take adorned with artistic nuances that resembled a Van Gogh painting.
Sparkle and Shine
Understated shine and shimmer dresses framed in animal-printed sheath-like separates was a holiday look for Nainiqa Farah London at Pakistan Fashion Week 10 London this past week, but tinsel was the talk of the town for Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/Winter’16 Collection where the brand channelled over-the-top Christmases from disco-eras past. Sometimes understated is overrated.
Sexy Capes for Winter Escapes
At PFW10 London, Nickishey by Moonam Amir conjured elegantly-textured capes in rich fabrics like knitted wool trimmed with fur. Both Dolce & Gabbana and Nainiqa Farah London opted for more soft-to-the-touch fabrics like velvet. We certainly wouldn’t mind being (photo) captured in these capes.
Asymmetry is Pretty
One-sleeve and one-shoulder asymmetrical designs were in high demand during Fashion Weeks across globe this festive season. Satin, velvet and shimmery designs from The Fashion Factory by Amna Farhan were in definite holiday form while Samuel Cirnansck‘s evening couture gowns were red carpet-worthy. Saint Laurent’s one-shoulder takes from their Fall/Winter’16 collection were decidedly daring but fit for holiday parties on the town. With asymmetrical designs like these, who needs balance?
Wrapped in Velvet
Velvet was vivid in all its glory this past season with Asian and mainstream designers alike. The Fashion Factory by Amna Farhan did wrap-around ankle-length skirts and festive loungewear-like separates with exquisite dragon-motifed embroidery. Ralph Lauren’s Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter’16 collection featured many velvet-draped dresses with jewelled-necklines and pleated accents in royal hues.
Tied with Fringe
At PFW10 London, Nainiqa Farah trimmed her designs with fur and tinsel-looking fringe for beautiful holiday style. Ralph Lauren and Valentino had the same idea with fringe statements that blurred gender lines and had a casually glamourous feel.
On Guard
Stunningly-embroidered military-inspired separates arrived in shining glory at runways near and far. Dolce & Gabbana decided on military-style cut and embellishment which added valour and charm to a refined look. The Fashion Factory’s Amna Farhan went for more of a Nehru-style jacket embellished with festive colour-rich embroidery. A holiday feast for the eyes.
Seeing Red
The ravishing colour radiantly manifested itself in multiple forms this season from wrap-around silk separates like those of Indian designer Deepak Perwani, to faux fur to suedes and silk and satins from Bluemarine, Gucci and Alberta Ferretti. Pakistani designers like Agha Noor had the same idea but decked out her looks with selectively-placed embroidery. ‘Tis the season.
