Amrit Dasu Hits A High Note With New Single & Music Collaboration With Universal Music Group

Music's new kid on the block is creating big waves as he starts 2016 on a roaring note!

Amrit Dasu is a newcomer to the music scene, but once you hear his voice, you'll think he's been around a long time. There's that sense of maturity, warmth and experience that comes across in his simple tunes, husky notes and boyish charm. Down to earth, gracious and talented are only a few words to describe him as a person, but how can you bottle up his talent and potential into a few words? You cannot. He's THAT good!

Since Amrit Dasu performed on the ANOKHI MEDIA Awards stage in 2015 things have taken quite a turn up as the singer embraces his identity as a music powerhouse. "Right after the awards I flew to the U.K. to promote my single with Juggy D at the AAT film premier in london then I came back home for a couple weeks and flew to Atlanta and recorded a whole album with Rishi Rich. Then Rishi showed my music to a label rep at UMG and they loved it so much that I flew back to Atlanta to have a Skype meeting with all of them and they wanted to sign me," says Dasu.

I had the opportunity to catch up with the singer on the high of his recent release "Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" to talk about life and music since he debuted his single "Wrong" at the 2015 ANOKHI Awards. Dasu opens up to me about his musical journey and what he hopes to accomplish with his music in the future.

Speaking of Universal Music Group, a newcomer being signed by a big label sounds like a daunting situation? But not to Amrit. "So when UMG came to sign me with Rishi, I was a bit scared because I've never really been part of such a big company before but what told me I was making the right choice is when the director of UMG called me and said, 'Dasu, what is it that you want? We want to work with you and develop you into a superstar.' UMG has given me the opportunity to let me show the world what I have to offer. What I love about UMG is they are letting me be as creative as I can and supporting my decisions because at the end of the day it's all about the music."

All about the music it certainly is. Dasu's first song to be released from his UMG collaboration was "Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" which shot up the music charts in the United States and India. The song was a beautiful fusion mix of old Bollywood with uptempo modern beats. So what inspired Dasu to choose "Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" as his first single?

"'Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" was first done with a sample with Arijit Singh's vocals but UMG wanted us to use a sample from the universal music india catalog so we ended up using one of his old hit songs. When I wrote "Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" with Rishi, I wanted to bring that old school R&B vibe to it. I wanted to write something that was really soulful but at the same time simple enough to understand for any age group," Dasu tells ANOKHI.

"Dil Kya Kare (Did I Love You)" isn't just a soulful music production, the music video is quite the hit as well featuring Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat as Dasu's love interest. A music video coup…no? The video has garnered over 1.6 million views, impressive for the online space today. So how does Dasu feel having a hit under his belt and a video with the Sherwat? "My experience working with Mallika was great because she was super down to earth. At first I didn't know the storyline and concept for the video, all I knew was that she was going to be the lead so I was pretty scared. Once I got the creative directors to inform me of the script and concept, I knew that Mallika was the perfect choice. She brought that shock element that no other actress could," says Dasu.

With a hit song and an exciting music video in tow, you'd think that Dasu is on top of the world. But after talking to the artist, it seems that the best is yet to come. So what's on the horizon? "Well now that things have gotten more serious in my career and I've entered the big leagues, Rishi and I are doing a song for Bollywood and we are also getting an album ready. But before that album releases, I intend to drop a couple more singles," he says.

"By the way since ANOKHI MEDIA has been so supportive of my career I would love to share the name of my upcoming album with your readers exclusively: Rough Around The Edges."

It will be interesting to chart the musical journey of this superstar as his music conitnues to climb up the charts and as his star continues to rise.
