Taking the Plunge
The idea of tying the knot has always intrigued me. Culture dictates that the idea of the ring comes with a deadline. Expiration dates for the marketability of ourselves and our potential soul mates—just like ripened fruit—hangs over our heads, coupled with prompt reminders by our elders. As with most things, men have it easier. They can go years without having to worry about popping the question, while us women have to deal with the endless questions of “why"s and “why not"s which tend to get louder and louder with each passing birthday.
My turn hasn’t come yet—however, taking into account my super-hyped Type A personality coupled with the fact that I have already planned weddings for my siblings (which as per Indian tradition were ultra big)—I know that if kismet bestows upon me this opportunity, I’d best be eloping.
There are so many “what ifs" that cross my mind. If I do plan The Big Day for myself, will it be a small affair? City Hall? A Bollywood production? What if adjusting to married life is not as easy as I thought? What if cultural demands overshadow our marital bliss? What if I don’t want to have children? What if I want children but I can’t? So many questions and not enough answers. As they say, a wedding is one thing; a marriage is a whole other matter. And the beat just goes on.
Heavy issues aside, there is something undeniably magical about a wedding. From the fashion, to the music, to the ceremonies, the excitement of celebrating such a union in the loving comfort of friends and family has captivated our imagination. And really, who doesn’t love a party?
And this is why we decided to put together our first Wedding Issue. In true ANOKHI style, we have put our experts to the test and succeeded in creating a bridal special that is informative, innovative and full of precious takeaways to help you plan your perfect day from start to finish. From pre-wedding beauty, fitness and wellness tips (Beauty Origins page 70, Neera’s Get The Dish page 85, Amrit’s Get Fit and Fabulous page 86); to planning the big day (The Wedding Planner page 102) to the hottest lingerie for the trousseau (Desert Storm page 54), we've got you covered. We also tackle weighty post-nuptial issues that tend to seep into day-to-day life (Great Expectations page 110, Infertile Grounds page 90). We want you to be prepared for the celebrations and armed with the know-how on tackling life after the guests have gone home.
If the only knot you're planning on tying is that of your Hermès scarf, don’t frét. We continue to bring you the hottest buzz from the global fashion, beauty, style and entertainment worlds to keep you in the loop with the latest tips, tricks, profiles and all around fabulousness that you can only get from ANOKHI.
