Model
Azura Vandenberg's modelling shots have a certain “je ne sais quoi” quality about them. We certainly thought so, which is why we had her on the cover of our September 2010 Fashion & Style Issue with Jay Sean. The camera loves her and she has the potential to become the fashion world’s newest darling. Although her parents are South African—her mother is Indian and she has a Dutch father—Vanderberg was born and raised in Canada.
She was discovered by a Montreal agent and started modelling at the tender age of 14. Since then, she has moved to New York City and worked for several magazines including fashion spreads with Complex and Essence magazines, a hair story in InStyle and a fashion shoot for Cosmopolitan as well as posing alongside Jay Sean for ANOKHI’s September 2010 Fashion & Style Issue. She’s also done covers for World Bride and worked for Calvin Klein, Zac Posen, Betsey Johnson and the late Alexander McQueen, for whom she did a show in 2005 in Paris. This fashionista also hopes to one day work for designer Marc Jacobs. Her ad campaign repertoire includes L'Oreal Cosmetics, M.A.C FashionCares, Champion Sports Wear, O.P.I and Ed Hardy.
Vandenberg says she loves her job, because it allows her to live and travel across the world. But deep down, this 24-year-old is a also a loving family gal, who calls her two brothers her best friends. Vandenberg has also turned her hobby of baking into a small business called Milk Tart Bakery. She sells small desserts out of her NYC loft, taking orders between her modelling shifts. One thing is for sure—Vandenberg is going places.
