Chairman, President and Founder of Desi Hits!

Anjula Acharia-Bath is the tour de force behind Desi Hits! She created this innovative multi-platform media company, collaborating with major US labels to bring the desi factor into pop culture worldwide. Desi Hits! has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including 50 Cent, the Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears and Sonu Nigam. Acharia-Bath’s work has been recognized by The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, and Rolling Stone, and she has been featured on BBC and Fox. Acharia-Bath was a guest speaker at New York University’s prestigious Clive Davis School of Music and served as a judge for the Music Video Award at The Ibiza International Film Festival in 2009. She kick started her career leading strategy for emerging technologies at The Forsyth Group.

She then went on to form a media and entertainment search firm called Merchant McKenzie, where she placed talent for companies such as Walt Disney Internet Group and Universal Pictures International. She holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts and Communications from Middlesex University and is a published writer. Look out for her first novel, tentatively titled Indian Remix, exploring the journey of three second-generation South Asian women.

Zodiac sign: On the cusp between Taurus and Gemini – I’m not confused, just multi-faceted.

Best way to unwind: Long dinners with treasured friends.

Fave Bollywood movie: Dil Se. I also love Dostana.

Favourite Hollywood movie: Ahhh so many, but being such a girlie girl, I think Pretty Woman is a film I can watch time and time again. I thought Crash was also fantastic.

Favorite book: A Fine Balance but Shantaram gives it a run for its money.

Guilty pleasure: Hot chocolate – can’t live without it.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why? Ability to read minds. That would be interesting, wouldn’t it!

What is on your iPod? Right now I am killing three albums: Anjulie, Joe and Keri Hilson. I am also addicted to The Bollywood Show and DJ Kunal’s Urban Desi show.

Something quirky about you no one would know: I love dancing to Bollywood music and will dance ANYWHERE! Bring it!

Best personal feature and why: My mind. It’s dangerous!

Best feature on the opposite sex: Intelligence and wit. I can’t choose between them because without them, he wouldn’t be interesting to me.

Celebrity crush: John Abraham.

If you had to choose, would it be Romance or Hot Sex? Hot, steamy, romantic sex.

Three things you can’t live without: My friends/family, music and romance! (Maybe also lemon cupcakes!)

Most memorable professional moment: When Jimmy Iovine, president of Interscope Records told me that I would change pop culture worldwide and he would help me. Jai ho!

Most valuable life lesson: Don’t ever speak too soon. But don’t be afraid to speak.
